In this study, a novel magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) sorbent, magnetic hypercrosslinked polystyrene (HCP/Fe3O4), was prepared and used for preconcentration of four sulfonamides (sulfamethoxypyridazine, sulfamethazine, sulfamethoxazole and sulfachloropyridazine) from natural water and milk samples. This material was prepared by sorption of pre-synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) onto HCP. Determination of the total content of some sulfonamides in milk using solid-phase extraction coupled with off-line derivatization and spectrophotometric detection.

A simple screening method for isolation and determination of the total content of some sulfonamides in milk using solid-phase extraction and a color reaction is described. This procedure is based on SPE of sulfonamides on hypercrosslinked polystyrene, elution with acetonitrile and off-line derivatization with p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde in acetonitrile followed by spectrophotometric determination. The reaction produces intense violet-red color and can be easily used both for quantitation of sulfonamides using spectrophotometry and for naked-eye semi-quantitative estimation.

Immunostimulating complexes incorporating Eimeria tenella antigens and plant saponins as effective delivery system for coccidia vaccine immunization.

Immunostimulating complexes (ISCOMs) are unique, multimolecular structures formed by encapsulating antigens, lipids, and triterpene saponins of plant origin, and are an effective delivery system for various kinds of antigens. The uses of ISCOMs formulated with saponins from plants collected in Kazakhstan, with antigens from the poultry coccidian parasite Eimeria tenella, were evaluated for their potential use in developing a vaccine for control of avian coccidiosis. Saponins isolated from the plants Aesculus hippocastanum and Glycyrrhiza glabra were partially purified by HPLC.

Molecular characterization of virulent Newcastle disease virus isolates from chickens during the 1998 NDV outbreak in Kazakhstan.

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infects domesticated and wild birds throughout the world and has the possibility to cause outbreaks in chicken flocks in future. To assess the evolutionary characteristics of 10 NDV strains isolated from chickens in Kazakhstan during 1998 we investigated the phylogenetic relationships among these viruses and viruses described previously. For genotyping, fusion (F) gene phylogenetic analysis (nucleotide number 47-421) was performed using sequences of Kazakhstanian isolates as compared to sequences of selected NDV strains from GenBank.

The transcription factor nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB regulates the expression of genes that can influence cell proliferation and death. Here we analyze the contribution of NF-kappaB to the regulation of epithelial cell turnover in the colon. Immunohistochemical, immunoblot, and DNA binding analyses indicate that NF-kappaB complexes change as colonocytes mature: p65-p50 complexes predominate in proliferating epithelial cells of the colon, whereas the p50-p50 dimer is prevalent in mature epithelial cells.

Since these events can contribute to carcinogenesis, we examined the expression of NF-kappaB inhibitory proteins (IkappaBs) in normal and transformed colonic epithelial cells. [Study of the antigenic properties of herpesvirus strains isolated from herpetic lesions at different sites].

The antigenic properties of 15 strains of hepesvirus isolated from herpetic lesions of different localization were studied. The serotype of each strain was established by the neutralization tests with hyperimmune sera to the reference type 1 and 2 strains: the cross-neutralization tests revealed antigenic relationships between the strains of 1 and 2 serotypes. Most strains isolated from lesions of the genitalia belonged to type 2, although one strain isolated in herpes genitalis belonged to type 1, and 2 strains isolated from facial lesions also belonged to type 2.
