This report describes a case of disseminated proliferative mesocestoidosis in a French bulldog from Aichi, Japan. In July 2023, the dog presented with chronic enteritis, and histological examination of the endoscopic biopsy specimen revealed parasites with suckers. Gnathostoma adult worms were found in the stomachs of domestic pigs in the Republic of Palau, with a prevalence of 0.7% (2/277) in the meat inspections conducted between 2020 and 2022. Based on morphological characteristics and nucleotide sequence analysis, the worms were identified as the adult stage of Gnathostoma doloresi Tubangui, 1925 (Rhabditida: Gnathostomatidae).

Previously, we successfully introduced laeA gene into a fungal strain in order to significantly increase the production of a bioactive compound, allowing use to discover novel biological activity. To demonstrate the universal applicability of the laeA gene introduction strategy for taping the potential of fungal secondary metabolism, in this present study, we created a library of microorganisms which we had the laeA gene inserted, and from that library we aimed to isolate compounds which are produced at significantly greater quantities compared to the respective wild type strains. Background: Sparganosis is a rare zoonotic disease caused by plerocercoid larvae of the genera Spirometra or Sparganum (Cestoda: Diphyllobothriidae). The larvae of Spirometra generally do not undergo asexual reproduction, whereas those of Sparganum can induce proliferative lesions in infected tissues. This paper presents an unusual case of proliferative sparganosis due to infection with Spirometra mansoni in a cat, normally considered a definitive host of the species.

A new polyketide, named hakuhybotrol (1), was isolated from a cultured broth of the mycoparasitic fungus FKA-73, together with six known analogs, cladobotric acids F (2), E (5), H (6), and A (7), pyrenulic acid A (3), and F2928-1 (4), in the course of our antifungal screening program. The structure of compound 1 was established through a comprehensive analysis using high-resolution mass spectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR, and its absolute configuration was determined by the combination of chemical derivatization, single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), and 3D electron diffraction/micro electron diffraction (3D ED/MicroED). The relative configuration of compound 4 was revised, and its absolute configuration was determined by the conversion to compound 1.
