Introduction: Evidence increasingly shows that facial emotion recognition (FER) is impaired in refractory mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (rMTLE), especially in patients with a right focus. This study explores FER in both mild (mMTLE) and refractory forms, examining the influence of epileptic focus lateralization on FER.

Methods: 50 MTLE patients, categorized by epilepsy severity and focus lateralization, were compared with healthy controls.

We describe a 63-year-old man diagnosed with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD), specifically sporadic fatal insomnia, confirmed through real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) analysis of cerebrospinal fluid and polysomnography. He presented with rapid cognitive decline, behavioural changes, sleep disturbances and dysautonomic symptoms. Ropeginterferon versus Standard Therapy for Low-Risk Patients with Polycythemia Vera.

BACKGROUND: Whether phlebotomy alone can adequately maintain target hematocrit in patients with low-risk polycythemia vera (PV) remains elusive. METHODS: In a phase 2 open-label randomized trial, we compared ropeginterferon alfa-2b (ropeg; 100 μg every 2 weeks) with phlebotomy only regarding maintenance of a median hematocrit level (≤45%) over 12 months in the absence of progressive disease (primary end point). Long-term beneficial impact of the randomised trial 'Train the Brain', a motor/cognitive intervention in mild cognitive impairment people: effects at the 14-month follow-up.

The 'Train the Brain' programme is a combined motor and cognitive intervention previously shown to markedly improve cognitive functions in MCI individuals compared to non-trained MCI controls, as assessed at the end of the 7-month intervention. Brain metabolic correlates of Locus Coeruleus degeneration in Alzheimer's disease: a multimodal neuroimaging study.

Locus Coeruleus (LC) degeneration occurs early in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and this could affect several brain regions innervated by LC noradrenergic axon terminals, as these bear neuroprotective effects and modulate neurovascular coupling/neuronal activity.
