The temporal dynamics of resting-state networks may represent an intrinsic functional repertoire supporting cognitive control performance across the lifespan. However, little is known about brain dynamics during the preschool period, which is a sensitive time window for cognitive control development. The fast timescale of synchronization and switching characterizing cortical network functional organization gives rise to quasi-stable patterns (i.

Background: Photobiomodulation (PBM) is indicated to accelerate the recovery of athletes and reduce muscle damage caused by physical exercise. The objective of this study was to establish the best time to apply photobiomodulation to increase the functional performance and ergogenic response of rugby athletes.

Methods: Randomized crossover clinical trial with 18 rugby athletes of both sexes.

Locally advanced (laBSCs) and metastatic basosquamous carcinomas (mBSCs) represent a therapeutic challenge. By definition, these forms are not amenable to surgery or radiotherapy, but according to literature reports, sonic hedgehog pathway inhibitors (HHIs), anti-programmed death 1 receptor antibodies (anti-PD-1), and other treatment approaches involving chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy have been used. This work features 5 real-life cases of advanced BSCs, treated at the Dermato-Oncology Unit of Trieste (Maggiore Hospital, University of Trieste).

Background: Actinic keratosis (AK) is one of the most common skin diseases, with a low risk of progression into invasive squamous cell carcinoma. We aim to assess efficacy and safety of a novel formulation of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) 4% with once daily application for the treatment of multiple AKs.

Methods: A pilot study was performed on 30 patients with a clinical and dermoscopic diagnosis of multiple AKs, enrolled between September 2021 and May 2022 at the Dermatology Departments of two Italian hospitals.

Adaptive cognitive control (CC), the ability to adjust goal-directed behavior according to changing environmental demand, can be instantiated bottom-up by implicit knowledge, including temporal predictability of task-relevant events. In S1-S2 tasks, either local (trial-by-trial hazard expectation) or global (block-by-block expectation) temporal information can induce prediction, allowing for proactive action control. Recent developmental evidence showed that adaptive CC based on global temporal prediction emerges earlier than when it is based on the local one only.

Background: Pilomatrix carcinoma (PC) is a rare skin tumor arising from hair follicle matrix cells. It is locally aggressive with a high rate of local recurrence after surgical excision. Few cases in the literature have been described and the management is not well defined.

Introduction: Nodular melanoma (NM) is a rare subtype of melanoma, responsible for more than 40% of melanoma deaths, characterized by rapid growth and high metastatic potential. Only a few case studies concerning the dermoscopic presentations of giant nodular melanoma have been reported so far.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess dermoscopic features of giant nodular melanomas in special locations, along with their clinical and histopathologic aspects.

Preterm birth is a neurodevelopmental risk condition often associated with cognitive control (CC) impairment. Recent evidence showed that CC can be implicitly adapted through associative learning. In the present study we investigated the ability to flexibly adjust CC as a function of implicit stimulus-response temporal regularities in preterm (PT; N = 21; mean age 8 ± 1.

Background: Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) stands as an umbrella term for common cutaneous malignancies, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), together with rarer cutaneous cancers, such as Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) and other forms of adnexal cancers. The majority of NMSCs can be successfully treated with surgery or radiotherapy, but advanced and metastatic stages may require systemic approaches such as immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

Summary: Since immunotherapy is not effective in all patients and can potentially lead to severe adverse effects, an important clinical question is how to properly identify those who could be suitable candidates for this therapeutic choice.

In recent years, the category of hedgehog pathway inhibitor (HHI) has shown great results in patients with advanced basal cell carcinoma (aBCC), but few real-life data on efficacy and safety profile of sonidegib are available. We report our management of locally advanced BCCs (laBCCs) with sonidegib, also describing the favorable response of locally advanced basosquamous carcinomas (laBSCs) treated with this hedgehog signaling inhibitor. Sonidegib was generally well tolerated and it achieved high response rates, improving quality of life.

Childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (CECTS), Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) and Panayiotopoulos syndrome (PS) are some of the most common pediatric epileptic syndromes. Despite the relatively benign (self-limited) course of epilepsy, current evidence suggests that these conditions are associated with an increased risk of neuropsychological and behavioral comorbidities. This study provides a cross-epileptic syndromes' comparison reporting on the cognitive and behavioral profile of a cohort of 32 children with CECTS (n = 14), CAE (n = 10) and PS (n = 8), aged 6 to 15 years old.

Neoplastic alopecia (NA) is defined as an organized hair loss in single or multiple areas of the scalp caused by a primary tumor that has metastasized to the skin of the scalp. Due to its localization and clinical appearance, NA should be placed in differential diagnosis with alopecia areata or other entities. To date, pathognomonic dermoscopic criteria of NA have not yet been described: the absence of classical criteria of other scalp diseases in addition to a major neovascularization with on-focus arborizing vessels and erosions or ulcerations may help the clinician to suspect a diagnosis of secondary alopecia.

Atypicalities in psychophysical thresholds for global motion processing have been reported in many neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism and dyslexia. Cross-syndrome comparisons of neural dynamics may help determine whether altered motion processing is a general marker of atypical development or condition-specific. Here, we assessed group differences in N2 peak amplitude (previously proposed as a marker of motion-specific processing) in typically developing (n = 57), autistic (n = 29) and dyslexic children (n = 44) aged 6-14 years, in two global motion tasks.

To evaluate the natural occurrence of the plant growth-promoting bacterium Azospirillum brasilense and petunia plants, local strains were isolated and characterized by biochemical and molecular methods. Three strains were assessed in greenhouse conditions using Petunia × hybrida Ultra™. Treatments: Plants without bacterial inoculation or chemical fertilization; fertilized with NPK and KNO ; and independently inoculated with the strains 2A1, 2A2, and 2E1 by submerging their roots in a bacterial suspension (~10  CFU·ml ).
