The concentrations of 12 elements (Ni, Ma, Cr, Cd, Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn, Mg, K, Na, Ca) were determined in cross-sections of human femur heads. The highest concentrations of these elements was found in the cortical bone, and the lowest concentrations occurred in the trabecular bone, with exception of the E cross-section, in which the lowest values were found in articular cartilage. The average concentrations of Na, Ca, K, and Mg were highest in cortical bone and lowest in articular cartilage.

The role of smoking cigarette in contamination by Cd, Pb were investigation on the basis the femur capitulum women and men. Contributed potential parts biomechanical parameter (pressure) on the distribution of Pb and Cd in tissue osseous. The way of fragmentation of femur capitulum have great important for occurrence of Pb in tissue osseous smoking women and men in comparison to no smoking.

The results of bacteriological tests of Palacos R cement with antibiotic 4 days, 7 days, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 4 weeks after implantation in rabbit organism have been presented in this work. The results of tests of mechanical characteristics of cement with and without antibiotic samples after being kept in physiological saline for 3 to 6 weeks have also been discussed. Bacteriological tests prove that antibiotic (III generation cephalosporin) added to surgical cement retain its bacteriostatic properties.

The aim of this paper was to determine the influence of X-rays and ageing on the mechanical properties of polyethylene cups of Weller type hip prostheses. Polyethylene cups produced in the period between 1987 and 1992 were investigated. Some of the cups were exposed to a radiation dose exceeding greatly the average dose used in a routine X-ray examination.

Results of operative treatment of 16 ankle fractures using modified Weber's method in patients aged 20-67 (mean 45) are presented. An AO screw placed in tibia plafond as a point of anchorage of wire in Weber's method was used. Mazur's criteria were used to assess functional outcome.

The paper presents an analysis of the processes that determine the durability of the polyethylene cup of the Weller total hip prosthesis. Mechanisms of wear of the polyethylene cup have been presented. It has been inferred that the process of loosening of the polyethylene cup is a combination of plastic deformation, tribologic wear, fracture and changes of the polyethylene structure.

The influence of antibiotic content in CMW1 bone cement on its bacteriostatic and mechanical properties has been investigated. It was found that antibiotics (beta lactams, II and III generation cefalosporins) preserved their bacteriostatic properties within bone cement. No significant impact of antibiotic content within CMW1 on its mechanical properties has been demonstrated.

The paper deals with mechanical properties and structural changes within POLFIX external fixator plates used for tibial fracture treatment. The results indicate strengthening of the ALSI 316 L steel in the course of using of the plate. Structural comparison between the new and used implant showed insignificant increase of fatigue features within the plate.

The long-term immunity against penetration of alloy components from the Weller stem into the bone cement and bone tissue has been investigated. No alloy elements (Co, Cr, Mo) contamination within cement or bone tissue has been observed in patients included in this study. The method employed proved valuable for chemical analysis within microareas of the hip after arthroplasty.
