Chronic hyperoxia during early postnatal development depresses breathing when neonatal rats are returned to room air and causes long-lasting attenuation of the hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR). In contrast, little is known about the control of breathing of juvenile or adult mammals after chronic exposure to moderate hyperoxia later in life. Therefore, Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 60 % O for 7 days (juveniles) or for 4 and 14 days (adults) and ventilation was measured by whole-body plethysmography immediately after the exposure or following a longer period of recovery in room air.

Small carpenter bees in the genus Ceratina are behaviourally diverse, species-rich, and cosmopolitan, with over 370 species and a range including all continents except Antarctica. Here, we present the first comprehensive phylogeny of the genus based on ultraconserved element (UCE) phylogenomic data, covering a total of 185 ingroup specimens representing 22 of the 25 current subgenera. Our results support most recognized subgenera as natural groups, but we also highlight several groups in need of taxonomic revision - particularly the nominate subgenus Ceratina sensu stricto - and several clades that likely need to be described as new subgenera.

Intervention Approaches to Address Intimate Partner Violence and HIV: a Scoping Review of Recent Research.

Purpose Of Review: Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a critical challenge to HIV prevention and treatment efforts across the globe. We examined recently published (January 9, 2017-January 9, 2023) integrated behavioral interventions designed to address IPV and HIV across the care continuum.

Recent Findings: Fifteen studies (involving n = 10,947 participants) met the inclusion criteria for this review.

Introduction: Despite global reductions in HIV incidence and significant investment in local harm reduction services, Ukraine continues to experience high HIV and HCV prevalence among people who inject drugs (PWID). Place-based factors and social norms affect drug use-related risk factors, but research has paid little attention to the relationship between drug use practices and place in Ukraine, including how these factors may contribute to or protect against HIV/HCV risk.

Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) is a best practice for treating individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), and primary care-based MOUD management can reduce treatment barriers among OUD patients. Individuals with OUD experience disproportionately high rates of trauma and violence, highlighting the importance of addressing trauma, mental health, and substance use concurrently. However, clear guidelines for trauma-informed treatment in a primary care setting remain poorly established.

Thermosensitive biomaterial gels with chemical permeation enhancers for enhanced microneedle delivery of naltrexone for managing opioid and alcohol dependency.

Naltrexone (NTX) can be transdermally delivered using microneedles (MN) to treat opioid and alcohol misuse disorders, but delivery is blunted by rapid micropore closure. Poloxamer (P407), a thermosensitive biocompatible hydrogel, sustains NTX delivery through MN-treated skin by generating a drug depot within the micropores. Optimizing P407 formulations could maintain sustained delivery after micropore closure while reducing required patch sizes, which would be more discreet and preferred by most patients.
