As the burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD) escalates with an ageing population, the demand for early and accessible diagnostic methods becomes increasingly urgent. Saliva, with its non-invasive and cost-effective nature, presents a promising alternative to cerebrospinal fluid and plasma for biomarker discovery. : In this study, we conducted a comprehensive multi-omics analysis of saliva samples ( = 20 mild cognitive impairment (MCI), = 20 Alzheimer's disease and age- and = 40 gender-matched cognitively normal individuals), from the South Australian Neurodegenerative Disease (SAND) cohort, integrating proteomics, metabolomics, and microbiome data with plasma measurements, including pTau181.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical cystectomy is the standard treatment for cisplatin-eligible patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Adding perioperative immunotherapy may improve outcomes.

Methods: In this phase 3, open-label, randomized trial, we assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, cisplatin-eligible patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer to receive neoadjuvant durvalumab plus gemcitabine-cisplatin every 3 weeks for four cycles, followed by radical cystectomy and adjuvant durvalumab every 4 weeks for eight cycles (durvalumab group), or to receive neoadjuvant gemcitabine-cisplatin followed by radical cystectomy alone (comparison group).

In this study, we examine the effectiveness of using a combination of a sono-photo-Fenton-like procedure and nano zero-valent iron catalyst (nZVI) to treat 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in an aquatic environment. Zero-valent iron particles were generated by a chemical reduction technique. nZVI nanoparticles were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to characterize the nanocatalyst.

A comprehensive research of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) emission from domestic waste incinerators in northern areas of Vietnam, were investigated. Sixty-four samples from two domestic waste incinerators were collected and analyzed for PAHs. The PAHs concentrations in the samples were determined using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

Some substituted glucose-conjugated thioureas containing 1,3-thiazole ring, 4a-h, were synthesized by the reaction of the corresponding substituted 2-amino-4-phenyl-1,3-thiazoles 2a-h with 2,3,4,6-tetra--acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl isocyanate. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of these thiazole-containing thioureas were estimated using a minimum inhibitory concentration protocol. Among these compounds, 4c, 4g, and 4h were better inhibitors with MIC = 0.

The trend of the treatment of solid domestic waste by the domestic waste incinerator system is an option to improve waste management and to reduce the negative impacts on the environment and human health. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (o-, m- and p-) (BTEX) are toxic chemical environmental contaminants that are released from different sources such as the domestic waste incinerator system. To determine the concentration of BTEX in the ambient air from these incinerator areas, the research team conducted four sampling campaigns in April, June, September, and November 2021, with a total of 80 samples collected.

A series of 1H-1,2,3-triazole-4H-chromene-D-glucose hybrid compounds 7a-w were synthesized using click chemistry of 2-amino-7-propargyloxy-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles 5a-w. CuNPs@montmorillonite was used as a catalyst in the presence of DIPEA as an additive for this chemistry. All synthesized 1H-1,2,3-triazoles were examined for in vitro inhibition against Mycobacterium tuberculosis protein tyrosine phosphatase B (MtbPtpB).

In this study, the click chemistry between N-propargyl derivatives of substituted 4H-pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines and tetra-O-acetyl-α-d-glucopyranosyl azide carried out under catalytic conditions using catalyst CuI@Montmorillonite and additive N,N-diisopropylethylamine (DIPEA). The yields of obtained hybrid compounds having 4H-pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine connected to 1H-1,2,3-triazole rings were about 85-94 %. All these synthesized hybrid compounds were examined for in vitro α-amylase (with IC values in the range of 103.

The ability of seeds to withstand drying is fundamental to seed conservation but drying responses are not well known for most wild species including crop wild relatives. We look at drying responses of seeds of and , the two primary wild relatives of bananas and plantains, using the following four experimental approaches: (i) We equilibrated seeds to a range of relative humidity (RH) levels using non-saturated lithium chloride solutions and subsequently measured moisture content (MC) and viability. At each humidity level we tested viability using embryo rescue (ER), tetrazolium chloride staining and germination in an incubator.

Article Synopsis
  • Crop wild relatives (CWR) like Musa balbisiana are crucial for enhancing traits in cultivated crops, yet their genetic diversity has been under-researched.
  • The study evaluated the genetic variation among 17 populations of Musa balbisiana in Vietnam and six in China using SSR markers, finding significant genetic diversity, especially in central Vietnam and China.
  • Northern Vietnam populations displayed unique genetic characteristics compared to those from China, suggesting the need for conservation efforts focused on populations in central Vietnam and northern Vietnam's Hoang Lien Son mountain range.

Aims: Clinical decision making is challenging in men with metastatic prostate cancer (mPC), as heterogeneity in treatment options and patient characteristics have resulted in multiple scenarios with little or no evidence. The South East Asia Expert Panel 2019 addressed some of these challenges.

Methods: Based on evidence in the literature and expert interviews, 19 statements were formulated for key challenges in the treatment of men with castration-sensitive and -resistant prostate cancer in clinical practice.

This research presents the assessment of contamination status, congener profiles and ecological risk of selected endocrine disrupting compounds (S-EDCs) in surface water from KimNguu River, Hanoi. Selected EDCs compose polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), phthalate esters (PAEs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Water sampling and chemical analyses were carried out in collected water samples in dry season (April) and wet season (October) in 2018.

Some heterocycles, namely 2-amino-4H-pyran-3-carbonitriles, were synthesized in a three-component reaction from substituted benzaldehydes, malononitrile, and ethyl acetoacetate. These heterocycles have been converted subsequently into 4H-pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine ring by ring-closing reaction with acetic anhydride in the presence of the concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst. The successive alkylation reaction of lactam NH bond on pyrimidine-4-one ring was carried out using propargylic bromide in dry acetone in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate.
