Overactive bladder (OAB) is a syndrome consisting of urgency, usually accompanied by urinary frequency and nocturia, with or without urgent incontinence, in absence of a causative infection or pathological conditions. The prevalence of OAB is approximately 11-19% in both men and women, and leads to a significant negative effect on health-related quality of life. The prevalence of OAB increases with age.

: In recent decades, the number of patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has increased, and CVD survivors are more likely to be old and frail and to have multiple comorbidities. A better understanding of geriatric conditions and their prevalence would help improve the management of older patients with CVDs. The main objective of this study is to estimate the association of myocardial infarction (MI) history with geriatric syndromes (GSs) in people 65 years of age and older.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares clinical and lab data of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients with iron deficiency (ID) based on two different diagnostic criteria: AHA/ESC/RSC guidelines and a stricter definition involving low transferrin saturation (TSAT) and serum iron levels.
  • Among 498 patients analyzed, ID was identified in 83.1% using AHA/ESC/RSC criteria and 74.5% using the TSAT/serum iron criteria, with many patients meeting both sets of criteria.
  • Those diagnosed with ID based on the TSAT/serum iron criteria experienced more severe CHF symptoms, higher rates of anemia and diabetes, and showed significant differences in lab results and age compared to those diagnosed solely

Biological age is a personalized measure of the health status of an organism, organ, or system, as opposed to simply accounting for chronological age. To date, there have been known attempts to create estimators of biological age based on various biomedical data. In this work, we focused on developing an approach for assessing heart biological age using echocardiographic data.

This article presents the incidence of geriatric syndromes in patients with chronic heart failure 65 years of age and older, depending on cognitive status. At the Russian gerontological center, 149 people with confirmed chronic heart failure were selected according to the European criteria of 2021. In this sample, 50,3% of patients had mild cognitive impairment, and 17,5% had severe cognitive impairment.

Glioblastoma cell lines derived from different patients are widely used in tumor biology research and drug screening. A key feature of glioblastoma is the high level of inter- and intratumor heterogeneity that accounts for treatment resistance. Our aim was to investigate whether intratumor heterogeneity is maintained in cell models.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex three-dimensional network of macromolecules that provides structural support for the cells and plays a significant role in tissue homeostasis and repair. Growing evidence indicates that dysregulation of ECM remodeling contributes to various pathological conditions in the body, including age-associated diseases. In this work, gene expression data of normal human tissues obtained from the Genotype-Tissue Expression project, as well as data from MatrisomeDB 2.

Previous studies examining the molecular and genetic basis of cognitive impairment, particularly in cohorts of long-living adults, have mainly focused on associations at the genome or transcriptome level. Dozens of significant dementia-associated genes have been identified, including APOE, APOC1, and TOMM40. However, most of these studies did not consider the intergenic interactions and functional gene modules involved in cognitive function, nor did they assess the metabolic changes in individual brain regions.

The activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system is one of the main pathogenetic mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases at all stages of the cardiovascular continuum. This article discusses the role of telmisartan and azilsartan as the most powerful sartans in modern cardiology. Azilsartan and especially telmisartan have a significant organoprotection and are superior to other antihypertensive drugs in terms of lowering blood pressure.

Epigenetic aging is a hot topic in the field of aging research. The present study estimated epigenetic age in long-lived individuals, who are currently actively being studied worldwide as an example of successful aging due to their longevity. We used Bekaert's blood-based age prediction model to estimate the epigenetic age of 50 conditionally "healthy" and 45 frail long-livers over 90 years old.

Background: Cognitive impairment is an irreversible, aging-associated condition that robs people of their independence. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible causes of this condition and propose preventive options.

Methods: We assessed cognitive status in long-living adults aged 90+ ( = 2,559) and performed a genome wide association study using two sets of variables: Mini-Mental State Examination scores as a continuous variable (linear regression) and cognitive status as a binary variable (> 24, no cognitive impairment; <10, impairment) (logistic regression).

The aging of the population and the associated increase in the share of cognitive impairments in the structure of a wide range of diseases are a serious challenge for modern healthcare. Difficulties in the treatment of cognitive disorders are determined by many factors, including the age of patients, comorbidity, forced polypragmasia and the adequacy of the dosage of drugs that restore cognitive activity. The experts discussed information about the therapeutic potential of the drug Cerebrolysin in the treatment of cognitive disorders of various origins, stated significant experience of its effective and safe use in many clinical studies in mild and moderate forms of dementia.

Objective: To explore the experts' opinion on the feasibility of using Mini-Kog, MMSE and GPCOG tests for screening assessment of cognitive impairment in elderly and senile patients at the primary stage of medical care, as well as to compare different characteristics of these tests according to experts' opinion.

Material And Methods: The survey of specialists was carried out on the basis of 6 Medical Centers. Prior to the survey, specialists tested cognitive functions in elderly and senile patients during routine visits undergoing routine admission using Mini-Kog, MMSE and GPCOG tests, as well as interviewed their relatives using the corresponding section of the GPCOG.
