Background: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm affecting soft tissues with a not well defined biological behavior. SFT occurs mostly in the pleura and the thorax, while extra-thoracic localization is uncommon and abdominal localization is very rare. Histologically, SFT is a well defined mass with splindle-cell proliferation in collagenous matrix with staghorn vascular network and CD34 reactive.

Purpose: Clinicobiological characteristics of neuroblastic tumor (NT) expressing c-kit tyrosine kinase receptor and/or its ligand, stem cell factor (SCF), are debated. This study aimed at investigating the clinicobiological features of primary NTs expressing c-kit and/or SCF in order to define the clinical relevance of selective therapeutic targeting.

Experimental Design: c-Kit and SCF expression was studied in 168 NTs using immunohistochemistry and in 106 of 168 using Northern blot.

Sclerosing osteomyelitis of Garré is a rare syndrome; the mandible is the most commonly affected bone segment in the cervicofacial region. This chronic disease is characterized by a nonsuppurative ossifying periostitis with subperiosteal bone formation, commonly reactive to a mild infection or irritation. The differential diagnosis must be made with similar clinical conditions with hard mandibular swelling associated with bony sclerosis.
