The use of targeted drug delivery systems, including those based on selective absorption by certain receptors on the surface of the target cell, can lead to a decrease in the minimum effective dose and the accompanying toxicity of the drug, as well as an increase in therapeutic efficacy. A fullerene C conjugate (FA-PVP-C) with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a biocompatible spacer and folic acid (FA) as a targeting ligand for tumor cells with increased expression of folate receptors (FR) was obtained. This study presents the analysis of the natural long-term aging of both the intact tablets and the active pharmaceutical ingredient. No forced aging conditions were applied to the samples. It is shown that the near infrared spectroscopy of the intact tablets packed in plastic blisters, supported by chemometrics, is a reliable method for detection of even slight deviations of the medicine from its regular state.

In this computational work applicability of IR spectral parameters for evaluations of OH···N hydrogen bond length is discussed. For a set of 124 complexes with OH···N hydrogen bond formed by combinations of methanol/acetic acid and pyridine (and their fluorine substituted versions) geometries, energies and IR parameters were calculated at MP2/def2-TZVP level of theory. For a number of IR parameters (the shift of proton donor group stretching vibration Δν, increase of its intensity I, the low-frequency hydrogen bond stretching vibration ν, bending in-plane δ and out-of-plane γ vibrations) equations linking them with interatomic distances are proposed, the robustness and accuracy of such equations are discussed.

Neutrophils provide a critical line of defense in immune responses to various pathogens, inflicting self-damage upon transition to a hyperactivated, procoagulant state. Recent work has highlighted proinflammatory neutrophil phenotypes contributing to lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
