Prevalence and severity of peripheral arterial disease among patient with heel pressure ulcer: a retrospective study of 42 patients.

Heel pressure ulcer is a major complication in elderly hospitalized patients. The association with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) which is also a frequent disease in this population is poorly known. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of PAD and critical limb ischemia (CLI) in patients with heel pressure ulcer.

Reduced Regional Cortical Thickness Rate of Change in Donepezil-Treated Subjects With Suspected Prodromal Alzheimer's Disease.

Objective: Cortical thinning, previously identified during prodromal stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD), is a "candidate" biomarker implemented in AD clinical therapy trials. We investigated the effect of donepezil treatment on cortical thickness in mild cognitively impaired subjects with the amnestic syndrome of the hippocampal type, a prodromal at-risk group for progression to AD dementia.

Methods: Data were from a longitudinal analysis of a community-based multicenter suspected prodromal AD cohort diagnosed by the Free and Cued Selective Reminding Test (81 donepezil vs 92 placebo) enrolled in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled parallel group design using donepezil (10 mg/day).

[Contribution of cerebral magnetic resonance imaging to etiological investigation of uveitis].

Purpose: Uveitis is a disorder for which etiologic assessment procedures are still not codified. Clinical presentation is heterogenous, with poor correlation between symptoms and neurological involvement. The aim of our study was to assess the contribution of cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the management of uveitis.

[Clinical features of pulmonary embolism in elderly: a comparative study of 64 patients].

Purpose: To date only a few studies regarding pulmonary embolism (PE) in elderly have been published. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical features of PE in elderly patients (≥ 75 years).

Introduction: The objective of this study was to assess the application of local and national recommendations in the management of community-acquired pneumonia in an internal medicine department with an antibiotic referent physician and in an emergency department.

Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective single-center study including patients admitted with community-acquired pneumonia in the internal medicine department of the University Hospital of Besançon after an initial admission in the emergency department.

Results: One hundred patients (58 women and 42 men) were included.

The cause of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) remains unknown. Studies have suggested immunizations as possible triggering factors of ITP through molecular mimicry. This case-control study explored potential associations between adult ITP and various routinely administered vaccines.

Acute pseudogout after pamidronate infusion.

A 72-year-old man, treated with a 60-mg intravenous infusion of pamidronate for shoulder hand syndrome, developed after few hours an acute pseudogout arthritis of his right knee. Diagnosis was confirmed by synovial fluid analysis and was associated with hypocalcemia. Only a few cases are reported in the literature.

Inflammatory response after ischemic stroke: a USPIO-enhanced MRI study in patients.

Background And Purpose: The intensity of the inflammatory response may be related to the volume of acute infarction. Ultra-small superparamagnetic particles of iron oxide (USPIO) may enable assessment of neuroinflammation. We aimed to assess whether the intensity of the inflammatory response might be related to the subacute ischemic lesion volume.

We have described a iatrogen effect of Atropine drops on salivary secretion. Pharmacology and iatrogen systemic effects are recalled; showing particularly the possible toxicity for the children in local use.
