Introduction: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are validated and standardised questionnaires that capture patients' own reports of their symptoms, functioning and well-being. PROMs can facilitate communication between patients and clinicians, reduce symptom burden, enhance quality of life and inform health service re-design. We aim to determine the acceptability of PROMs and the preferred timing of PROM completion in New South Wales (NSW) at the point of care, facilitated by the Health Outcomes and Patient Experiences (HOPE) platform.

Cardiac arrythmias are a form of heart disease that contributes toward making heart disease a significant cause of death globally. Irregular rhythms associated with cardiac arrythmias are thought to arise due to singularities in the heart tissue that generate reentrant waves in the underlying excitable medium. A normal approach to removing such singularities is to apply a high voltage electric shock, which effectively resets the phase of the cardiac cells.

With recent advances in understanding racial, socioeconomic, and mental health issues in medicine and their relation to policy and legislation, medical professionals are increasingly involved in local and national advocacy efforts. At the frontlines of these initiatives are medical students who, in addition to completing required coursework and clinical training, devote themselves to serving patients through civic participation. The burgeoning evidence concerning health care disparities and inequity, along with greater awareness of racial and socioeconomic discrimination, have made advocacy an essential aspect of many students' medical training.

The evolution of pesticide resistance is a widespread problem with potentially severe consequences for global food security. We introduce the resevol R package, which simulates individual-based models of pests with evolving genomes that produce complex, polygenic, and covarying traits affecting pest life history and pesticide resistance. Simulations are modelled on a spatially-explicit and highly customisable landscape in which crop and pesticide application and rotation can vary, making the package a highly flexible tool for both general and tactical models of pest management and resistance evolution.

Propagating precipitation waves are a remarkable form of spatiotemporal behavior that arise through the coupling of reaction, diffusion, and precipitation. We study a system with a sodium hydroxide outer electrolyte and an aluminum hydroxide inner electrolyte. In a redissolution Liesegang system, a single propagating precipitation band moves down through the gel, with precipitate formed at the band front and precipitate dissolved at the band back.

Microbial biopesticides containing living parasites are valuable emerging crop protection technologies against insect pests, but they are vulnerable to resistance evolution. Fortunately, the fitness of alleles that provide resistance, including to parasites used in biopesticides, frequently depends on parasite identity and environmental conditions. This context-specificity suggests a sustainable approach to biopesticide resistance management through landscape diversification.

Background And Aims: Healthcare workers (HCWs) throughout the world have been exposed to economic and existential stress during the Covid-19 pandemic. The American Medical Association (AMA) has documented that increased healthcare burden correlates with increased stress, burnout, and psychological burden in HCWs. However, limits on personnel, time, and in person interactions make it challenging to assess mental health outcomes during a pandemic.

Background: The HIV epidemic in the United States disproportionately affects Black communities. Nearly half of Black men who have sex with men (MSM) will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime. There is a significant unmet need for behavioral health care services among Black MSM, and untreated behavioral health needs make it less likely the person is retained in HIV care.

Background: The definition of population-specific outcomes is an essential precondition for the implementation of value-based health care. We developed a minimum standard outcome set for overall adult health (OAH) to facilitate the implementation of value-based health care in tracking, comparing, and improving overall health care outcomes of adults across multiple conditions, which would be of particular relevance for primary care and public health populations.

Methods: The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) convened an international panel (patients, clinicians, and topic experts).

Photochemically coupled micro-oscillators are studied experimentally and computationally in star networks to investigate the modes and mechanisms of synchronization. The micro-oscillators are catalyst-loaded beads that are placed in catalyst-free Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) solutions. The properties of the photochemical coupling between the oscillators are determined by the composition of the BZ reaction mixtures, and both excitatory coupling and inhibitory coupling are studied.

Viruses are key population regulators, but we have limited knowledge of the diversity and ecology of viruses. This is even the case in wild host populations that provide ecosystem services, where small fitness effects may have major ecological impacts in aggregate. One such group of hosts are the bumblebees, which have a major role in the pollination of food crops and have suffered population declines and range contractions in recent decades.

White matter lesions (WML) are common in the ageing brain, often arising in a field effect of diffuse white matter abnormality. Although WML are associated with cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), their cause and pathogenesis remain unclear. The current study tested the hypothesis that different patterns of neuroinflammation are associated with SVD compared to AD neuropathology by assessing the immunoreactive profile of the microglial (CD68, IBA1 and MHC-II) and astrocyte (GFAP) markers in ageing parietal white matter (PARWM) obtained from the Cognitive Function and Ageing Study (CFAS), an ageing population-representative neuropathology cohort.

The consequences for wildlife of living in radiologically contaminated environments are uncertain. Previous laboratory studies suggest insects are relatively radiation-resistant; however, some field studies from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone report severe adverse effects at substantially lower radiation dose rates than expected. Here, we present the first laboratory investigation to study how environmentally relevant radiation exposure affects bumblebee life history, assessing the shape of the relationship between radiation exposure and fitness loss.

Background: People with HIV with co-occurring substance use and mental health diagnoses who are unstably housed have poorer outcomes for retention in care and viral suppression. Navigation models are a potential strategy to help this vulnerable population obtain the necessary medical and non-medical services across multiple service systems. The Health Resources and Services Administration's Special Projects of National Significance: "Building a Medical Home for Multiply-Diagnosed HIV-positive Homeless Populations initiative 2012-2017 found that navigation models may be an effective intervention to support people with HIV with unstable housing improve HIV health outcomes.

Photochemical control of the motion of surface active Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) droplets in an oil-surfactant medium is carried out with illumination intensity gradients. Droplet motion is analyzed under conditions of constant uniform illumination and a constant illumination gradient. Control of droplet motion is developed by testing different illumination gradients.

Photochemically coupled Belousov-Zhabotinsky micro-oscillators are studied in experiments and simulations. Generally good agreement between the experimental and simulated dynamical behavior is found, with spiral wave chimeras exhibited at small values of the time delay in the coupling between the oscillators, spiral wave core splitting at higher values, and phase cluster states replacing the spiral wave dynamics at the highest values of the time delay. Spiral wave chimera dynamics is exhibited experimentally for much of the time delay range, while spiral wave phase cluster states are exhibited more in the model simulations.

Synchronous behavior of a population of chemical oscillators is analyzed in the presence of both weak and strong coupling. In each case, we derive upper bounds on the critical coupling strength which are valid for arbitrary populations of nonlinear, heterogeneous oscillators. For weak perturbations, infinitesimal phase response curves are used to characterize the response to coupling, and graph theoretical techniques are used to predict synchronization.
