Objectives: To investigate the role of mitochondrial autophagy disorder caused by deletion of E3 ubiquitin ligase Parkin in neuroinflammation in a mouse model of MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: Wild-type (WT) male C57BL/6 mice and Parkin mice were given intraperitoneal injections with MPTP or PBS for 5 consecutive days, and the changes in motor behaviors of the mice were observed using open field test. The effects of Parkin deletion on PD development and neuroinflammation were evaluated using immunofluorescence and Western blotting.

Cancer survivors have an increased risk of developing second primary malignancies. We aimed to identify whether certain cancers lead to an increased risk of developing melanoma among cancer survivors. We evaluated the risk of developing cutaneous melanoma after the 20 most common cancers in the United States through the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.

Metal-organic framework (MOF) derived spherical porous carbon (SPC) has potential application value in the field of adsorption and sustained release of nitroimidazole drugs. This work used MIL-53(Fe) as a precursor and prepared spherical 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde resin containing MIL-53(Fe) crystals using the advanced Stöber method, followed by the successful preparation of MIL-53(Fe) derived SPC (MSPC) with a structure containing both micropores and mesopores through high-temperature carbonization. The effects of the doping amount of MIL-53(Fe) on the sphericity and particle size of MSPC were investigated.

Purpose: We evaluated whether IDO-inhibitor BMS986205 (IDOi) + PD-1 inhibitor nivolumab enhanced T-cell activity and augmented immune-mediated antitumor responses in untreated, resectable HNSCC. We employed response-adaptive surgical timing to identify responders to immunotherapy and enhance their response.

Patients And Methods: Patients with HNSCC were 3:1 randomized to receive nivolumab with or without BMS986205 PO daily (NCT03854032).

Background: Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) lingual tonsillectomy and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) are effective surgical interventions for well-selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) intolerant to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Previous publications have demonstrated that HGNS patients have a lower postoperative apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and length of hospital stay than TORS patients. No prior study has investigated the differences in costs between HGNS and TORS.

Objectives: Certain low-level immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have been associated with survival benefits in patients with various solid tumors on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). We aimed to investigate the association between irAEs and response to neoadjuvant ICIs in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and to identify differences in circulating cytokine levels based on irAE status.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study including three neoadjuvant clinical trials from July 2017 to January 2022: NCT03238365 (nivolumab ± tadalafil), NCT03854032 (nivolumab ± BMS986205), NCT03618654 (durvalumab ± metformin).

Background: Dysregulation of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) function leads to a variety of diseases such as atherosclerosis and hyperplasia after injury. However, antiproliferative drug targeting VSMC exhibits poor specificity. Therefore, there is an urgent to develop highly specific antiproliferative drugs to prevention and treatment VSMC dedifferentiation associated arteriosclerosis.

Wilson's disease is caused by abnormal copper metabolism resulting in deposition in various organs, including the brain, liver, and cornea, thus disrupting organ function. It is characterized by encephalopathy, extrapyramidal symptoms, progressive liver failure, and copper ring deposition in the cornea. Management of this disease should include quality of life maintenance; however, relevant studies on this topic are lacking.

Transgender women may have concerns of drug interactions between feminizing hormone therapy (FHT) and antiretrovirals, leading to nonadherence. This randomized, three-period crossover, open-label, phase I trial assessed the effects of doravirine (DOR) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) on the pharmacokinetics (PKs) of estradiol, spironolactone, and total testosterone and vice versa in healthy transgender women. Volunteers were randomized 1:1 into two sequences containing three treatment groups (DOR, lamivudine [3TC], and TDF alone; estradiol, spironolactone, and placebo; and DOR/3TC/TDF, estradiol, and spironolactone).

This study analyzed the effects of the Dark Tetrad (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism) and self-concealment on social appearance anxiety. Empirical investigations on which personality traits influence social appearance anxiety are yet missing. In this study, a sample of N = 1186 Chinese students performed a questionnaire-based survey assessing different personality facets and social appearance anxiety tendencies.

Background: Outpatient chemotherapy often leaves patients to grapple with a range of complex side effects at home. Leveraging tailored evidence-based content to monitor and manage these symptoms remains an untapped potential among patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer.

Objective: This study aims to bridge the gap in outpatient chemotherapy care by integrating a cutting-edge text messaging system with a chatbot interface.

We present a microlens-assisted imaging approach to record the scattering light of plasmonic nanoparticles at the single particle level. The microlens can significantly enhance the backscattering of visible light from individual plasmonic nanoparticles by several dozen folds, and single gold nanoparticles with a diameter as low as 60 nm can be imaged under a conventional optical microscope. This can benefit from a significant increase in the scattering intensity afforded by the microlens, meaning that the imaging of gold nanoparticles at a high temporal resolution (up to 5000 Hz) can be achieved, which is fast enough to record single particle adhesion events on the substrate.

Restenosis after angioplasty is caused usually by neointima formation characterized by aberrant vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) dedifferentiation. Myeloid-derived growth factor (MYDGF), secreted from bone marrow-derived monocytes and macrophages, has been found to have cardioprotective effects. In this study we investigated the effect of MYDGF to postinjury neointimal formation and the underlying mechanisms.

The needle size used in ultrasound-guided percutaneous renal biopsy significantly influences the efficacy and safety of the procedure. The aim of this study is to perform a comparative analysis of 16-gauge and 18-gauge needles for ultrasound-guided percutaneous renal biopsy. This systematic review and meta-analysis included randomized controlled trials and observational studies that compared the outcomes of using 18-gauge and 16-gauge needles for ultrasound-guided percutaneous renal biopsy.

Background: Opioids are a part of standard of care treatment of acute, severe postoperative pain. However, increased opioid requirements have been shown to be associated with increased postoperative complications, morbidity, and mortality. The aim of this study was to identify potential predictive factors associated with increased or decreased opioid requirements after free tissue transfer (FTT) to the head and neck.

Background: Protein biomarkers of cancer progression and response to therapy are increasingly important for improving personalized medicine. Advanced quantitative pathology platforms enable measurement of protein expression in tissues at the single-cell level. However, this rich quantitative cell-by-cell biomarker information is most often not exploited.

Current histocytometry methods enable single-cell quantification of biomolecules in tumor tissue sections by multiple detection technologies, including multiplex fluorescence-based immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization. Quantitative pathology platforms can provide distributions of cellular signal intensity (CSI) levels of biomolecules across the entire cell populations of interest within the sampled tumor tissue. However, the heterogeneity of CSI levels is usually ignored, and the simple mean signal intensity value is considered a cancer biomarker.
