Background: Risk profile of recurrence may influence the effect of antiplatelet therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of clopidogrel-aspirin initiated within 72 hours after symptom onset for acute mild stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack stratified by risk profile.

Methods: This is a secondary post hoc analysis of the INSPIRES (Intensive Statin and Antiplatelet Therapy for Acute High-risk Intracranial or Extracranial Atherosclerosis) randomized clinical trial that enrolled patients 35 to 80 years old with acute mild ischemic stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack between 2018 and 2022.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common form of dementia among the elderly, affects numerous individuals worldwide. Despite advances in understanding the molecular underpinnings of AD pathology, effective treatments to prevent or cure the disease remain elusive. AD is characterized not only by pathological hallmarks such as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles but also by impairments in synaptic physiology, circuit activity and cognitive function.

Background: Although many studies shown that the risk of congenital heart disease (CHD) was closely related to genetic and environmental factors, the exact mechanism was still unclear. This study was to assess the association of maternal folic acid supplementation (FAS), the 5-methyltetrahydrofolate-homocysteine methyltransferase reductase (MTRR) gene polymorphisms in offspring and their interaction effects with the risk of CHD and its subtypes.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 595 children with CHD and 605 healthy child controls.

Highly sensitive and accurate detection of disease biomarkers is of great importance for diagnosis, staging, and treatment of certain diseases. Herein, we report a novel electrochemical method for the quantification of miRNA biomarkers with DNA tetrahedrons as the signal reporters. Upon the initiation of DNA hairpin opening by miRNA at the electrode interface, the hidden click reaction group is exposed for the bioconjugation with a tetrahedral DNA nanostructure, which carries multiple electrochemical species.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of linear accelerator-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (LINAC-FSRT) in patients with brain metastases (BM).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 214 patients treated with LINAC-FSRT, categorized based on biologically effective dose (BED10, / = 10) into two groups (≤55 Gy, >55 Gy). Stratified analyses were conducted based on targeted therapy to compare survival outcomes.

In this study, we explore the substrate-mediated control of self-assembly behavior in diboron molecules (CHBO, BCat) using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The structural transformation of BCat molecules from one-dimensional (1D) molecular chains to two-dimensional (2D) molecular arrays was achieved by changing the substrate from Au(111) to bilayer graphene (BLG), highlighting the key role of substrate interactions in determining the assembly structure. Notably, the B-B bond in the molecular arrays on BLG is distinctly pronounced, reflecting a more refined molecular resolution with distinct electronic states than that on Au(111).

During the production of Wuyi rock tea, withering and fermentation play a crucial role in the primary processing of the tea, greatly influencing the development of its distinct taste characteristics. In this study, Rougui () was selected as the research object to investigate the effects of withering and fermentation on metabolites and taste characteristics in tea leaves. The findings revealed that a total of 1249 metabolites were detected in Rougui leaves at various processing stages, of which only 40 key metabolites were significantly altered.

Background: The decline in daily living abilities (ADL) among older adults is a notable predictor of depressive symptoms and the occurrence of disease. However, the effects of changes in ADL disability on the progression of depression have not been extensively studied.

Objective: This research aims to examine the relationship between current ADL disability and depression in individuals aged 45 and older, as well as to explore how ADL disability influences the progression of depression in later life within China.

The citric acid accumulation during fruit ripening determines the quality of fleshy fruits. However, the molecular mechanism underlying citric acid accumulation is not clearly understood yet in citrus due to the scarcity of paired germplasm that exhibits significant difference in organic acid accumulation. Two citrus triploid hybrids with distinct citric acid content in their mature fruits were herein identified from a previously conducted interploidy cross in our group, providing an ideal paired material for studying acid accumulation in citrus.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of innovative Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (CLIA) in testing Cryptococcal Antigen (CrAg) across two medical centers, employing the FDA-approved CrAg Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) by IMMY as a reference standard.

Methods: The study encompassed patients diagnosed with cryptococcosis at West China Hospital of Sichuan University (HX) between July 2022 and May 2023, and Suzhou Fifth People's Hospital (SZ) from September 2020 to September 2023. All specimens underwent simultaneous detection using the LFA (IMMY, Norman, USA) and CLIA (Chuanglan, Suzhou, China).

  • Alternaria spp. in apples can produce toxic secondary metabolites that threaten human and animal health, and this study explored the contamination levels and how these toxins are affected by processing methods.
  • Apples showed increased susceptibility to infection at 25 °C, producing six different toxins which did not spread beyond 4 cm from the infection site.
  • Processing methods like juicing and canning impacted toxin levels, with juice transfer rates lower than pomace, and most human exposure through apple products was well within recommended safety limits, suggesting a low dietary risk.

Probiotics, a class of live microorganisms, play an important role in anti-inflammation, regulating immunity and optimizing intestinal microecological environment. In this study, we constructed a combination of three strains - Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus bulgaricus, and Bacillus subtilis - to ferment triple probiotics Bornlisy. Our findings indicate that Bornlisy has a significant therapeutic effect in alleviating colitis in mice, further proofing its ability to suppress inflammation in colon, enhance intestinal barrier function and restore imbalanced intestinal microbiome.

In research on second language (L2) processing, the processing of reference has been highlighted as a domain of particular difficulty, but the source of the difficulty is not well understood. The present study examines whether differences in the pronominal systems of the first language (L1) and L2 impact processing. We take a novel approach, testing a group of intermediate-advanced L2 learners in both their L1 (Mandarin Chinese) and L2 (English), allowing us to directly examine whether L2 learners show similar or different patterns when processing the L1 and L2.
