Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide that is abundant, biocompatible and exhibits effective antifungal activity against various pathogenic fungi. However, the potential intracellular targets of chitosan in pathogenic fungi and the way of activity of chitosan are far from well known. The present work demonstrated that chitosan could inhibit Penicillium expansum, the principal causal agent of postharvest blue mold decay on apple fruits, by binding to DNA and triggering apoptosis.

Carbon nanotube fibers (CNTFs) are widely utilized in flexible and wearable electronics due to their outstanding electrical and mechanical properties. However, the spinning process of CNTFs has limited the CNTs from exposure, leading to an ultralow usage efficiency of individual CNTs. Here, we propose an electrochemical expansion strategy of a single CNTF at the liquid-air interface, forming a macroscopic spindle-shaped CNTF (SS-CNTF) with an enlarged volume of up to 5000-fold upon the spindle.

Endowed with a soft and conductive feature, hydrogels have been widely used as interface materials in bioelectronics to fulfill mechanical matching and bidirectional exchange between electronic platforms and living samples. Despite their ionic conductivity, the lack of electron mobility has limited their further applications in biosensing, especially in the field of electrochemical sensing. Herein, Ag@pyrenecarboxaldehyde nanocapsules (Ag@Pyc nanocapsules) as emitters were prepared to construct an ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for the detection of the human apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease1 (APE1) activity. Ag nanoparticles on the surface of Pyc nanocapsules as coreaction accelerators could significantly promote coreactant peroxydisulfate (SO) to generate massive reactive intermediates of sulfate radical anion (SO), which interacted with the Pyc nanocapsules to achieve a strong ECL response. In addition, with the aid of APE1-triggered 3D DNA machine, trace target could be converted into a large number of mimic targets (MTs), which were positively correlated with the activity of APE1.

Herein, a novel tetrahedral DNA walker with four arms was engineered to travel efficiently on the 3D-tracks via catalyzed hairpin assembly autonomously, realizing the sensitive detection and activity assessment as well as intracellular imaging of apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1). MXene based composite conductive aerogels have been extensively investigated as sensitive materials for wearable pressure sensors owing to their effective 3D network microstructures and the excellent conductivity of MXene. In this work, we fabricated a 3D porous TiCT MXene/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) composite aerogel (MPCA) with a controllable patterning property utilizing the Cu-assisted electrogelation method. The prepared composite aerogel can be assembled into pressure sensors for wearable physical monitoring and high-resolution sensor microarrays for robotic tactile sensing.

Simultaneous monitoring of electrophysiological and biochemical signals is of great importance in healthcare and fitness management, while the fabrication of highly integrated and flexible devices is crucial to these applications. Herein, we devised a multifunctional and flexible hydrogel-paper patch (HPP) that was capable of simultaneously real-time monitoring of electrocardiogram (ECG) signal and biochemical signal (glucose content) in sweat during exercise. The self-assembly of the highly porous PEDOT:PSS hydrogel on paper fiber provided the HPP with good conductivity and hydrophilic wettability for efficient electron transmission and substance diffusion, thereby enabling it to serve as a low-impedance ECG electrode and a highly sensitive glucose sensor.
