Deformation of metal halide perovskite can induce many interesting properties. This study focuses on a manganese-based organic-inorganic perovskite with a unique structure in which tetrahedral and octahedral coordination coexist in single crystal unit cell. This perovskite emits at 519 and 615 nm at room temperature.

We report a rare case of Saturday Night Retinopathy (SNR) following postoperative orbital compression bandaging, highlighting the value of multimodal imaging in diagnosis and management. A 24-year-old male underwent surgical repair of an inferior orbital wall fracture with an absorbable implant, followed by compression bandaging of the right eye for three days. Upon bandage removal, the patient experienced a significant drop in visual acuity (VA) from 20/20 to 20/200.

Background: Liposarcoma (LPS) is a kind of malignancy of soft tissue usually found in the retroperitoneal, limb, or neck region, and some may be detected with delayed symptoms (pain or palpable mass), and less frequently occurs in organs of the digestive system. In contrast, Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is a common histological subtype of LPS. The present study reported a case of dedifferentiated liposarcoma originating in the gallbladder.

Background: Micronutrient deficiencies, particularly selenium, are common in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and may influence disease progression and severity. Various studies have investigated blood selenium levels in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, but these studies have shown considerable heterogeneity and are generally limited by small sample sizes. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the selenium status in patients with inflammatory bowel disease compared to controls and to explore the potential of selenium supplementation as a therapeutic option.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a severe renal disorder that arises as a complication of diabetes. Liraglutide, an analogue of a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, has been shown to decrease diabetes-caused renal damage. Nevertheless, the complete understanding of the roles and mechanism remains unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of external ventricular drainage (EVD) on rebleeding rates and the occurrence of hematomas in patients with ruptured aneurysms who also experience acute hydrocephalus.
  • It analyzes clinical data from 83 patients out of 606 who needed EVD placement, focusing on the timing of EVD relative to aneurysm treatment and the use of dual antiplatelet therapy.
  • Findings suggest that pre-treatment EVD placement may reduce rebleeding rates, but dual antiplatelet therapy significantly increases the risk of EVD-related hematomas, particularly when EVD is placed after starting the therapy.

Seahorses are increasingly regarded as a promising farming object suitable for recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs) due to their high economic value. However, reports on the large-scale farming of seahorses in RASs are rare, and some key parameters, such as stocking densities, are still unclear. In the present study, we employed the lined seahorse (), for which large-scale farming has been achieved, to determine the suitable stocking density for three different-sized juveniles in RASs.

Article Synopsis
  • Enteritis, caused by Vibrio harveyi, is a serious disease affecting seahorse aquaculture, prompting a study on the genetic factors behind disease resistance.
  • The research involved a genome-wide association study (GWAS) that identified 10 significant SNPs linked to resistance, revealing a heritability estimate of 0.10 for the trait.
  • Results indicated that genomic selection (GS) showed potential for breeding disease-resistant seahorses, with the BayesC model performing best in predictive accuracy compared to other selection methods.

Non-metallic Sn(II) and Pb(II) compounds, particularly those with p-type properties, are essential functional materials due to their notable electronic arrangement and chemical characteristics. The presence of additional Sn(II) and Pb(II) chlorides is suggested by the existence of known Sn(II) and Pb(II) compounds. By utilizing first-principles calculations and swarm intelligence structure search techniques, we have predicted the existence of up to seven new ternary alkaline-earth metal chlorides: ABCl (where A = Sr and B = Sn or Pb) and ABCl (where A = Mg, Ca, or Ba and B = Sn, or A = Ca or Sr and B = Pb).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of PNCK in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), emphasizing its impact on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and immunotherapy effectiveness.
  • Research reveals that lower levels of PNCK correlate with better patient outcomes and a stronger immune response, while higher levels promote cancer progression and inhibit immune responses.
  • Targeting PNCK could enhance the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors by improving the immune microenvironment, suggesting a potential new strategy for HNSCC treatment.

Two new stilbenes, denominated Cajanotone B (CAB) and Cajanotone C (CAC), were isolated from the leaves of Cajanus cajan. In this study, the structures of CAB and CAC were unambiguously elucidated by a combination of various spectral methods. Both compounds significantly inhibited the adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes by reducing the lipid accumulation, triglyceride content and FFA secretion.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies suggest that biologics like ustekinumab and secukinumab are effective for treating generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP), but their comparative effectiveness and safety remain unclear.
  • This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of both drugs in GPP patients over 48 weeks, including genetic analysis of CARD14 mutations.
  • Results indicated secukinumab outperformed ustekinumab in terms of quicker skin clearance and improved quality of life, with outcomes unaffected by CARD14 mutations.

A three-mode biosensor incorporated ratiometric (electrochemical/colorimetric, electrochemical/photothermal) into its design was constructed using DNA-driven magnetic beads (DMBs) as a bridge to detect C. perfringens. It further enhances the accuracy of detection results while maintaining compatibility with applications in multiple scenarios.

Reproductive investment decision is an integral part of life-history theory. Differential allocation hypothesis predicts that females should increase investment when mated to high-quality males, conversely, reproductive compensation hypothesis predicts that females should increase investment when mated to low-quality males. Empirical research dominantly focuses on polygamous species and rarely on serially monogamous species.

Cyprodinil, a globally utilized broad-spectrum pyrimidine amine fungicide, has been observed to elicit cardiac abnormality. Resveratrol (RSV), a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound, showcases remarkable defensive properties in nurturing cardiac development. To investigate whether RSV could protect against cyprodinil-induced cardiac defects, we exposed zebrafish embryos to cyprodinil (500 μg/L) in the presence or absence of RSV (1 μM).

Background: Dysfunction of motile cilia, including respiratory cilia and sperm flagella, typically leads to primary ciliary dyskinesia and male infertility or low fertility in humans. Genetic defects of LRRC6 have been associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia and asthenozoospermia due to abnormal ultrastructure of ciliated axonemes.

Objectives: To identify novel mutations of the LRRC6 gene related to multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella and male infertility and investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved.

Magnetic soft microrobots have a wide range of applications in targeted drug therapy, cell manipulation, and other aspects. Currently, the research on magnetic soft microrobots is still in the exploratory stage, and most of the research focuses on a single helical structure, which has limited space to perform drug-carrying tasks efficiently and cannot satisfy specific medical goals in terms of propulsion speed. Therefore, balancing the motion speed and drug-carrying performance is a current challenge to overcome.
