Article Synopsis
  • * There are two types of TAMs: M1, which help stop cancer, and M2, which can help cancer grow.
  • * Plant polysaccharides (natural substances found in plants) may boost the immune system and help fight cancer by influencing these macrophages.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the involvement of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 2 (PCK2) in gefitinib-resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells and assess its feasibility as a therapeutic target against gefitinib resistance.

Methods: Gefitinib-resistant cell lines, PC9GR and HCC827GR, were generated through progressive exposure of parental cells to escalating concentrations of gefitinib. Transcriptomic analysis encompassed the treatment of PC9 and PC9GR cells with gefitinib or vehicle, followed by RNA extraction, sequencing, and subsequent bioinformatic analysis.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common pathological type of lung cancer. Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) have been administered as the first-line therapy for patients with EGFR mutations in LUAD, but it is almost inevitable that resistance to EGFR-TKIs therapy eventually arises. Polyphyllin I (PPI), derived from Paris polyphylla rhizomes, has been shown to have potent anti-cancer properties in a range of human cancer types including LUAD.

The light-dark cycle significantly impacts the growth and development of animals. Mantis shrimps (Oratosquilla oratoria) receive light through their complex photoreceptors. To reveal the adaptive expression mechanism of the mantis shrimp induced in a dark environment, we performed comparative transcriptome analysis with O.

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a chronic liver disease characterized by fatty infiltration of the liver. In recent years, the MAFLD incidence rate has risen and emerged as a serious public health concern. MAFLD typically progresses from the initial hepatocyte steatosis to steatohepatitis and then gradually advances to liver fibrosis, which may ultimately lead to cirrhosis and carcinogenesis.

Due to the characteristics of aggressiveness and high risk of postoperative recurrence, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a serious hazard to human health, accounting for 85% of all lung cancer cases. Drug therapies, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy, are effective treatments for NSCLC in clinics. However, most patients ultimately develop drug resistance, which is also the leading cause of treatment failure in cancer.

Sorafenib, a multi-kinase inhibitor with antiangiogenic, antiproliferative, and proapoptotic properties, is the first-line treatment for patients with late-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the therapeutic effect remains limited due to sorafenib resistance. Only about 30% of HCC patients respond well to the treatment, and the resistance almost inevitably happens within 6 months.

Ubiquitination is a critical type of protein post-translational modification playing an essential role in many cellular processes. To date, more than eight types of ubiquitination exist, all of which are involved in distinct cellular processes based on their structural differences. Studies have indicated that activation of the ubiquitination pathway is tightly connected with inflammation-related diseases as well as cancer, especially in the non-proteolytic canonical pathway, highlighting the vital roles of ubiquitination in metabolic programming.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Tinghao Yan"

  • - Tinghao Yan's recent research focuses on the mechanisms of drug resistance in various cancers, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and the role of the tumor microenvironment in influencing treatment outcomes.
  • - His studies explore novel therapeutic strategies, such as using natural plant-derived polysaccharides for macrophage polarization and investigating compounds like Polyphyllin I that target pathways involved in resistance to therapies like gefitinib.
  • - Additionally, Yan's work emphasizes the significance of molecular mechanisms such as nucleotide methylation and non-proteolytic ubiquitination in cancer progression and treatment resistance, contributing to a deeper understanding of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease and tumor biology.
