Traditionally, fresh flowers (SJF) and flowers buds (SJFB) are dried prior to further processing and use. Here, we investigated the ways in which drying techniques, including sun drying (SD), steam drying (STD), microwave drying (MD), hot air drying (HAD, 40 °C, 60 °C, 80 °C, 100 °C), and freeze drying (FD), alter the flavonoid composition of freshly-harvested SJF and SJFB. The flavonoid content of dried samples was determined by Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Diode Array Detector (UPLC-DAD).

Clinical Characteristics of Lung Abscess Caused by Streptococcus Constellatus Infection.

Background: This study aimed to understand the clinical characteristics of pulmonary abscess caused by Streptococcus constellatus infection.

Methods: The clinical manifestations, laboratory examination, drug sensitivity, chest CT manifestations, and treatment and prognosis of patients with pulmonary abscess caused by Streptococcus constellatus infection were retrospectively collected and analyzed.

Results: A total of 9 cases of pulmonary abscess caused by Streptococcus constellatus infection were confirmed; one case was confirmed by traditional cultures, while metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) confirmed the other 8 cases.

Secondary somatosensory cortex glutamatergic innervation of the thalamus facilitates pain.

Although the secondary somatosensory cortex (SII) is known to be involved in pain perception, its role in pain modulation and neuropathic pain is yet unknown. In this study, we found that glutamatergic neurons in deep layers of the SII (SII Glu ) responded to bilateral sensory inputs by changing their firing with most being inhibited by contralateral noxious stimulation. Optical inhibition and activation of unilateral SII Glu reduced and enhanced bilateral nociceptive sensitivity, respectively, without affecting mood status.

Astigmatid mites are economically significant pests of stored products and sources of inhalant allergens causing allergic rhinitis and asthma worldwide. The morphological identification of astigmatid mites at the species level is often a difficult task due to their small size, phenotypic similarity and lack of diagnostic characters. We used multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify astigmatid mite species, which could complement the morphological data for the species-specific identification of mites.

Methods: Neuropathic pain was induced by partial transection of the infraorbital nerve (p-IONX) or partial sciatic nerve ligation (PSL) in mice and evaluated by measuring nociceptive thresholds to mechanical and heat stimulation.
