Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a primary cause of viral diarrhea in neonatal piglets, leading to substantial economic losses in the swine industry globally. It primarily targets epithelial cells of the small intestine, compromising intestinal function and resulting in the death of affected animals. As mitochondria are essential for maintaining gut health, this study investigates the effects of PEDV infection on mitochondrial function in small intestinal epithelial cells and its subsequent impacts.

Most life activities of organisms are realized through protein-protein interactions, and these interactions are mainly achieved through residue-residue contact between monomer proteins. Consequently, studying residue-residue contact at the protein interaction interface can contribute to a deeper understanding of the protein-protein interaction mechanism. In this paper, we focus on the research of the trimer protein interface residue pair.

Interfaces often trap dopants for segregation and significantly affect the material properties. Because interfacial segregation sometimes is harmful, revealing mechanisms to reduce the extent of interface segregation is important. Here we investigate the Sr segregation behavior in LaTiO/LaTiO/LaTiO sandwich heterostructures by transmission electron microscopy and first-principles calculations.

At present, there is no clear consensus on the impact of carbohydrate feeds on bee colony health, and comprehensive research and evaluation in this context is lacking. To comprehensively and objectively examine the health status of honeybees after consuming those carbohydrates from multiple perspectives, experimental techniques, including high-throughput sequencing of the transcriptome, proboscis extension reflex (PER), and measuring bee growth parameters were employed. This study showed that compared with honey, feeding high fructose syrup (HFS) resulted in a decrease in the survival rate and body weight of bees, while sucrose decreased the learning and memory ability of bees.

Interprofessional teaching rounds are a practical application of interprofessional education in bedside teaching, yet there is a lack of research on how interprofessional teaching rounds should be implemented into medical education. This study aimed to describe our experience in developing and implementing interprofessional teaching rounds during a clerkship rotation for medical students, and compares its strengths and weaknesses relative to traditional teaching rounds. Medical students were assigned to either the interprofessional teaching round group ( = 24) or the traditional teaching round group ( = 25), and each group participated in their assigned type of teaching round.

Nanotwinned materials have recently attracted intense interest since they often exhibit excellent mechanical properties that are far superior to those of the corresponding single crystals. However, how nanotwinned structures affect the physical properties of functional materials remains almost unexplored. In this study, we demonstrate ferrimagnetism in a nanotwinned antiferromagnetic CrO thin film.

The DNA cross-link repair 1B (DCLRE1B) gene is involved in repairing cross-links between DNA strands, including those associated with Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome and congenital dyskeratosis. However, its role in tumours is not well understood. DCLRE1B expression profiles were examined in tumour tissues and normal tissues using TCGA, GTEx, and TARGET datasets.

Introduction: Heart failure is a leading global cause of mortality, with ischemic heart failure (IHF) being a major contributor. IHF is primarily driven by coronary artery disease, and its underlying mechanisms are not fully understood, particularly the role of immune responses and inflammation in cardiac muscle remodeling. This study aims to elucidate the immune landscape of heart failure using multi-omics data to identify biomarkers for preventing cardiac fibrosis and disease progression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study documents the little-known beetle Protaetia (Vietnamoprotaetia) sericophora in China, significantly extending its known distribution to include Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan.
  • For the first time, the female beetle is illustrated, highlighting sexual dimorphism between the genders.
  • The research offers new insights into the natural habitat of its larvae, aiding in the capture of flower beetles in limestone and similar areas.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the short-term clinical efficacy of combining posterior meniscal root repair with meniscal centralization technology in the treatment of medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) and notable meniscus extrusion.

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, patients aged 43-76 years with only chronic posterior root tears of the medial meniscus and notable extrusion were followed up for 12-14 months.

Inclusion Criteria: (1) persistent medial knee joint pain affecting daily life, presenting with joint space tenderness; (2) showing the ineffectiveness of conservative treatment for a minimum of 3 months; conservative treatment includes non-invasive methods such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy and massage, but does not include intra-articular injections.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effects of three acaricides - Bifenazate, Etoxazole, and Azocyclotin - on the development and reproduction of two mite species: Tetranychus urticae and Polyphagotarsonemus latus.
  • Results showed that all acaricides decreased the lifespan and fecundity of both mite species, with Etoxazole having the most detrimental impact on T. urticae's daily reproduction.
  • Notably, Azocyclotin prolonged the immature developmental stage of both mite species, and P. latus exhibited a competitive reproductive advantage when exposed to sublethal concentrations of these aacaricides.

Introduction: Senecavirus A (SVA), belonging to the genus in the family , is an emerging pathogen causing vesicular disease in pigs. The main clinical manifestations of SVA infection include high mortality in neonatal piglets, skin ulceration, and vesicular lesions. So far, there is no commercially available vaccines or drugs against SVA.

Seeking highly efficient adsorbents for pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) removal has been a worldwide continuing endeavor. In this study, a new 3D composite material was synthesized by covalently anchoring Poly(m-Phenylenediamine) onto 3D polyvinyl alcohol modified foam framework (PmPD-MF-PVA). PmPD-MF-PVA was characterized and evaluated for its efficacy in removing diclofenac (DCF), a commonly detected PPCPs in both wastewater and surface water.

Thyroid cancer (THCA) is a malignant tumor that affects the endocrine system. At present, an effective treatment for THCA remains elusive, particularly for medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma, due to the lack of suitable medications and prognostic markers. Patient RNA-sequencing and clinical data were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases.

Cisplatin is a common anticancer drug, but its frequent nephrotoxicity limits its clinical use. Small GTP-binding protein GDP dissociation stimulator (smgGDS), a small GTPase chaperone protein, was considerably downregulated during cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (CDDP-AKI), especially in renal tubular epithelial cells. SmgGDS-knockdown mice was established and found that smgGDS knockdown promoted CDDP-AKI, as demonstrated by an increase in serum creatine, blood urea nitrogen levels and the appearance of tubular patterns.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurogenerative disorder without effective treatments. Defects in mitochondrial complex I are thought to contribute to AD pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to explore whether a novel gene therapy transducing yeast complex I gene NDI1 can be used to treat AD with severely reduced complex I function in cell and animal models.

Neuropathic pain is a type of chronic pain caused by an injury or somatosensory nervous system disease. Drugs and exercise could effectively relieve neuropathic pain, but no treatment can completely stop neuropathic pain. The integration of exercise into neuropathic pain management has attracted considerable interest in recent years, and treadmill training is the most used among exercise therapies.
