This paper performed a comprehensive study of the thermal nonequilibrium effects of CO/Ar mixtures with various degrees of N2 additions and probed the N2 relaxation behaviors via the CO rovibrational thermometry. The rovibrational temperature time histories of shock-heated CO/N2/Ar mixtures were measured via a laser-absorption technique, and the corresponding vibrational relaxation data were summarized at 1890-3490 K. The measured results were compared with predictions from the Schwartz-Slawsky-Herzfeld (SSH) formula and the state-to-state (StS) approach (treating CO and N2 as pseudo-species).

Many terpene glycosides exhibit contrasteric patterns of 1,2-diol glycosylation in which the more hindered alcohol bears a sugar; protection of the less hindered alcohol only increases steric repulsion. Here, we report a method for contrasteric glycosylation using a new sugar-linker that forms a cleavable, 10-membered ring with high efficiency, leading to syntheses of cotylenin E, J, and ISIR-050. Linker selection was aided by DFT calculations of side reactions and stereoselectivity, as well as conformational analyses using autoDFT, a Python script that converts SMILES strings to DFT-optimized conformational ensembles.

Presynthesized perovskite quantum dots are very promising for making films with different compositions, as they decouple crystallization and film-formation processes. However, fabricating large-area uniform films using perovskite quantum dots is still very challenging due to the complex fluidic dynamics of the solvents. Here, we report a robust film-formation approach using an environmental-friendly binary-solvent strategy.

Liquid metals have attracted a lot of attention as self-healing materials in many fields. However, their applications in secondary batteries are challenged by electrode failure and side reactions due to the drastic volume changes during the "liquid-solid-liquid" transition. Herein, a simple encapsulated, mass-producible method is developed to prepare room-temperature liquid metal-infilled microcapsules (LMMs) with highly conductive carbon shells as anodes for lithium-ion batteries.

Microfluidics, with its remarkable capacity to manipulate fluids and droplets at the microscale, has emerged as a powerful platform in numerous fields. In contrast to conventional closed microchannel microfluidic systems, free-boundary microfluidic manufacturing (FBMM) processes continuous precursor fluids into jets or droplets in a relatively spacious environment. FBMM is highly regarded for its superior flexibility, stability, economy, usability, and versatility in the manufacturing of advanced materials and architectures.

Small molecules that modulate the 14-3-3 protein-protein interaction (PPI) network represent valuable therapeutics and tool compounds. However, access has been lost to 14-3-3 PPI molecular glues of the cotylenin class, leading to investigations into the practical chemical syntheses of congeners and analogues. Here we report a concise synthesis of (-)-cotylenol via a 10-step asymmetric entry into a diversifiable 5-8-5 core.

Microencapsulation of phase-change materials (PCMs) is of great value and significance for improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Here, highly controllable phase-change microcapsules (PCMCs) with hexadecane as the core material and polyurea as the shell material were developed for precise temperature regulation. A universal liquid-driven active flow focusing technique platform was used to adjust the diameter of PCMCs, and the shell thickness can be controlled by adjusting the monomer ratio.

The oxidative addition of aryl halides to bipyridine- or phenanthroline-ligated nickel(I) is a commonly proposed step in nickel catalysis. However, there is a scarcity of complexes of this type that both are well-defined and undergo oxidative addition with aryl halides, hampering organometallic studies of this process. We report the synthesis of a well-defined Ni(I) complex, [(bpy)NiCl] ().

Developing emerging materials for high energy-density lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries is of great significance to suppress the shuttle effect of polysulfides and to accommodate the volumetric change of sulfur. Here, a novel porous microcapsule system containing a carbon nanotubes/tin dioxide quantum dots/S (CNTs/QDs/S) composite core and a porous shell prepared through a liquid-driven coaxial microfluidic method as Li-S battery cathode is developed. The encapsulated CNTs in the microcapsules provide pathways for electron transport; SnO QDs on CNTs immobilize the polysulfides by strong adsorption, which is verified by using density functional theory calculations on binding energies.

We propose a compound interfacial shearing (CIS) process for versatile production of monodisperse Janus emulsions with controllable structural and topographic features. The process induces an active periodic force to decouple material and process parameters, enables independent control of compartmental features in Janus emulsions, and facilitates inline and on-demand generation of various geometric features for a large variety of process parameters and material properties. Janus emulsions of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) with a controlled number of compartments are produced by CIS and photopolymerized to form micro-hydrogels with designated interfacial curvatures.
