Magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents can enhance diagnostic precision but often face limitations such as short imaging windows, low tissue specificity, suboptimal contrast enhancement, or potential toxicity, which affect resolution and long-term monitoring. Here, we present a protein contrast agent based on lanmodulin, engineered with a single-point mutation at position 108 from N to D to yield maximum gadolinium binding sites. After loading with Gd ions, the resulting protein complex, LanND-Gd, exhibits efficient renal clearance, high relaxivity, and prolonged renal retention compared to commercial agents.

However, current medical practice lacks non-invasive, reliable approaches for both imaging atherosclerotic plaques and delivering therapeutic agents directly therein. Here, a biocompatible and biodegradable pH-responsive nanoscale coordination polymers (NCPs) based theranostic system is reported for managing atherosclerosis.

The overall aim of this study is to explore the views of mental health nurses (MHNs) about the sexual safety of consumers receiving care in acute inpatient units. In Australia, people accessing mental health inpatient units have reported feeling unsafe while receiving care including experiences of sexual harassment and abuse from other patients. There has been no study to date that has explored the views of the MHNs providing care.

When the clinical symptoms including liver damage, inflammation, and fibrosis, are added to the initial steatosis, NAFLD becomes non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the problematic and severe stage. The diagnosis of NASH at the right time could therefore effectively prevent deterioration of the disease.

The aim of this study is to explore the views and understanding of youth mental health clinicians with regard to the physical health of young people with early psychosis and their perspectives on lifestyle interventions improving the health and well-being of young people with early psychosis. Physical health disparities leading to premature mortality among people with mental illness are well evident in the literature. Mental health and physical health are directly correlated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory vascular disease that is characterized by the accumulation of lipids and immune cells in plaques built up inside artery walls. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), which exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, has long been purported to be of therapeutic benefit to atherosclerosis patients. However, large clinical trials have yielded inconsistent data, likely due to variations in the formulation, dosage, and bioavailability of DHA following oral intake.

Thus, the diagnosis of NASH is important for preventing the progress of NAFLD into a fatal condition. The oxidative enzyme myeloperoxidase (MPO), which is mostly produced by polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes (NEU), has been identified as a key player in lipid peroxidation in inflamed tissues.

Dexamethasone-antigen conjugates represent a prominent class of tolerogenic vaccines that enable coordinated delivery of antigen and dexamethasone to target immune cells. The importance of nonspecific albumin association towards the biodistribution of antigen-adjuvant conjugates has gained increasing attention, by which hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions govern the association capacity.

People with mental illness experience a shorter life expectancy compared to the general population. Poor physical health trajectory emerges following the onset of psychosis and is further compounded by the initiation of antipsychotic treatment. Young people are particularly at risk as the onset of mental illness mostly occurs between the age of 12 and 25 years.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of neuropeptide substance P (SP) in ST2 cell (bone mesenchymal stem cells of mice) osteogenic differentiation to provide a basis for the treatment of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis.
Methods: Third-generation ST2 cells were cultured with different concentrations of SP (0, 10⁻¹⁰, 10⁻⁸, 10⁻⁶, and 10⁻⁵ mol·L⁻¹). After 24, 48, and 72 h, cell proliferation was detected by CCK-8.
The array of comorbidities that comes with obesity and the propelling surge of this disease globally today make the urgent need for treatment vital. Although promoting a healthy physical regimen and controlled diet to affected patients are the main bulk of present treatment, prescriptions of weight-loss medications have also been introduced to complement this treatment. However, the use of synthetic medications may produce adverse side effects and consequently affect the patient's quality of life.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAdipocyte dysfunction is a major cause of obesity, which is associated strongly with many disorders including psychological and medical morbidities, metabolic abnormalities, and cardiovascular diseases as well as a series of cancers. This study investigated the antiadipogenic activity of scutellarin (1) in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms. It was observed that 1 reduced adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells potently, as evidenced by a decrease in cellular lipid accumulation.

There is a demonstrated clinical need for alternatives of autologous fresh bone graft with excellent biological performance in osteoconductivity, osteoinductivity, and osteogenicity. We previously developed a collagen microencapsulation technology entrapping bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in a biomimetic collagen fiber meshwork and produced injectable collagen-MSC microspheres. In this study, we hypothesize that injectable microspheres with osteoconductivity, osteogenicity, and osteoinductivity can be fabricated by differentiating the encapsulated MSCs, from either human or mouse sources, toward osteogenic lineages in these three-dimensional microspheres.
