Ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm in a child with Down syndrome: a rare cardiac anomaly.

Background: As many as forty to fifty per cent of children with Down syndrome are born with a cardiac anomaly. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm in this syndrome is extremely rare, only three previous reports, and of adult onset.

Case Report: An asymptomatic 9 and a half year boy with Down syndrome presented with a cardiac murmur at routine examination.

QT interval in normal infants during sleep with concurrent evaluation of QT correction formulae.

Background: Physiological changes in the QT interval caused by sleep are important in the evaluation of the normal QT interval. Traditionally, Bazett's formula is used for correcting the QT interval for heart rate in childhood. We set out to establish the QT-RR relationship in infants during sleep and concurrently test the performance of four QT correction formulae to determine their comparability and clinical utility.

The T wave as a marker of dispersion of ventricular repolarization in premature infants before and while on treatment with the I(Kr) channel blocker cisapride.

Aims: Measurement of electrocardiographic intervals to assess dispersion in ventricular repolarization may be helpful in the assessment of the risk of ventricular arrhythmia. We measured QTc, QT dispersion, and T wave intervals in premature infants before and while on treatment with the I(Kr) blocker cisapride as markers for dispersion in ventricular repolarization.
