The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes in patients undergoing buried and non-buried free flaps for breast reconstruction, in addition to evaluating the safety and reliability of venous flow couplers. A retrospective review was performed of all patients undergoing free flap breast reconstruction between 2013 and 2023. The primary outcomes were free flap failure, complications and the number of procedures required to complete the reconstructive journey.

The MoM implant has been replaced with other materials, such as ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) and metal-on-polyethylene (MoP). This literature review looks at the past and present use of MoM prostheses to assess whether the turn away from MoM use is justified.

A case of bilateral traumatic distal femoral Salter-Harris Type I fracture presented to our emergency department. History was of a 9-year-old male playing at a building site when a concrete block fell from height on to his knees, which were extended in a sitting position. Management was with analgesia and transfer to theatre followed by closed reduction and internal fixation-position was assessed under mobile X-ray.
