Background: Children with neuromuscular disorders and syndromic scoliosis who require operative treatment for scoliosis are at increased risk for postoperative complications. Complications may include surgical site infection and pulmonary system problems including respiratory failure, gastrointestinal system disorders, and others. The purpose of our study was to determine the effect of a standardized perioperative pathway specifically designed for management of high-risk pediatric patients undergoing surgery for scoliosis.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of a prior contralateral above-knee amputation (AKA) represents a rare scenario with limited reported outcomes. As such, it is difficult for surgeons to effectively counsel these patients relative to risks and expected outcomes after TKA. We report outcomes for a series of 10 such patients.

Mammalian palatogenesis is a complex process involving a temporally and spatially regulated myriad of factors. Together these factors control the 3 vital processes of proliferation, elevation and fusion of the developing palate. In this study, we show for the first time the unequivocally vital role of CCN2 in development of the mammalian palate.
