Background: Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of blind registrations in the elderly. Unfortunately, it is difficult to detect the early stage of the disease, when treatment is more likely to be successful. Subjects with very early disease are likely to have abnormal macular function, even in the pre-symptomatic stage.

Chromatin modifications occur in the vicinity of DNA damage and play an integral role in the DNA damage response (DDR).

Colour contrast sensitivity in eyes at high risk of neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Purpose: To generate the first published reference database of colour contrast sensitivity in eyes at high risk of neovascular age-related macular degeneration and to explore this important feature in quality of vision.

Background: Quality of vision depends on many factors. Changes in chromatic contrast sensitivity remain largely unexplored in eyes at high risk of neovascular age-related macular degeneration; they may however not only be relevant for quality of life but also an early indicator of the onset of the disease, so it is important to have a means to evaluate any variation in colour contrast sensitivity, especially in view of the likely increase in neovascular age-related macular degeneration as the population ages.

Optic neuropathy secondary to eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis.

Eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis (EAF) is a rare fibroinflammatory disorder with a predilection for upper respiratory tract submucosa. We report a 45-year-old man with progressive unilateral visual loss secondary to a retroorbital soft tissue mass with histological features consistent with EAF. The patient experienced marked improvement in vision after endoscopic optic nerve decompression through sphenoethmoidectomy.

Rating papilloedema: an evaluation of the Frisén classification in idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

The appearance of the optic disc is a key measure of disease status in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). The Frisén classification describes stages of optic disc swelling (grades 0-5). It is the only classification of papilloedema, and is used internationally in clinical and research practice.

Low energy diet and intracranial pressure in women with idiopathic intracranial hypertension: prospective cohort study.

Objective: To observe intracranial pressure in women with idiopathic intracranial hypertension who follow a low energy diet.

Design: Prospective cohort study.

Setting: Outpatient department and the clinical research facility based at two separate hospitals within the United Kingdom.

Solitary intracranial extra-osseous plasmacytoma presenting with ophthalmic signs.

Solitary plasmacytomas rarely develop in the skull, meninges, or brain. Ophthalmic signs as the initial manifestations of solitary intracranial plasmacytoma have rarely been described. We report the neuro-ophthalmologic, imaging, and pathologic findings for two patients.
