General hospital patients' attitude towards systematic health risk behavior screening and intervention.

Background: Systematic counseling on behavioral health risk factors (HRFs) may be suitable to promote health among general hospital patients. This study aimed to investigate the openness of patients towards systematic screening and intervention of HRFs, its relation to actual participation in a multi-behavioral intervention, and whether socio-economic characteristics, HRFs and health indicators are related to approval.

Methods: All 18- to 64-year-old patients hospitalized in five medical departments at the University Medicine Hospital Greifswald in Germany were asked between May and July 2022 to participate in a survey and in a subsequent pre-post intervention study.

We propose helical topological superconductivity away from the Fermi surface in three-dimensional time-reversal-symmetric odd-parity multiband superconductors. In these systems, pairing between electrons originating from different bands is responsible for the corresponding topological phase transition. Consequently, a pair of helical topological Dirac surface states emerges at finite excitation energies.

Objectives: Study of the diagnostic performance and validity of the German Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) in a large data set from multiple adult samples.

Methods: The BDI-II was assessed together with the SCID-I as external criterion in 638 individuals (385 currently or remitted depressed individuals, 253 controls). The screening performance of the BDI-II was calculated for suggested cut-offs from the BDI-II manual and for optimal cut-offs derived from ROC-analyses.

Cultivating the Bacterial Microbiota of Roots.

The integral role of microbial communities in plant growth and health is now widely recognized, and, increasingly, the constituents of the microbiome are being defined. While phylogenetic surveys have revealed the taxa present in a microbiome and show that this composition can depend on, and respond to, environmental perturbations, the challenge shifts to determining why particular microbes are selected and how they collectively function in concert with their host. In this study, we targeted the isolation of representative bacterial strains from environmental samples of roots using a direct plating approach and compared them to amplicon-based sequencing analysis of root samples.

Culture-based studies of skin microbiota suggest that skin microbes can affect skin properties, immune responses, pathogen growth, and wound healing.
