Article Synopsis
- The cardiovascular system of a healthy person adapts to acute hypoxia (oxygen deficiency) via two primary mechanisms: one focusing on increased heart function (cardiac component) and another emphasizing vascular adjustments (vascular component).
- In the first response, there is an increase in cardiac and systolic indices, end-diastolic volume, while the ejection fraction remains stable, and general vascular tone decreases.
- In the second response, there’s a decrease in cardiac indices and blood flow, coupled with an increase in peripheral resistance. After 10 days of hypoxia training in a pressure chamber, the system's response to hypoxia was less intense but followed a similar trend.
