Management of ankyloglossia by functional frenuloplasty using diode laser.

Ankyloglossia or tongue-tie is a condition present since birth that results in restricted movement of the tongue due to the attachment of the lingual frenulum. The condition affects breastfeeding, speaking, swallowing, occlusion, and proper tongue posture. Tongue ties vary in degree of severity from mild cases of mucus membrane bands to complete tongue ties where the tongue adheres to the floor of the mouth.

As financing mental health care is becoming more challenging, governments are progressively introducing new remuneration systems. At the beginning of 2018, Switzerland introduced TARPSY, a new tariff system based on diagnosis-related psychiatric cost groups that takes into consideration ratings of severity and complexity. TARPSY is expected to provide incentives for medically and economically meaningful treatment, increase transparency, and improve the quality of the provided services by triggering competition between hospitals.

Gorham disease involving the maxillofacial bones: A perplexing entity.

Gorham disease is a rare disorder with progressive osteolysis which leads to the vanishing of bones. Its etiology and ideal management strategy are still an enigma. A case of Gorham disease involving the maxillofacial region in a 25-year-old male with an emphasis on etiology and diagnosis is discussed.

Assessment of oral health parameters among students attending special schools of Mangalore city.

Background: The aim of the study was to assess the oral health status and treatment needs and correlation between dental caries susceptibility and salivary pH, buffering capacity and total antioxidant capacity among students attending special schools of Mangalore city.

Materials And Methods: In this study 361 subjects in the age range of 12-18 years were divided into normal ( = 84), physically challenged ( = 68), and mentally challenged ( = 209) groups. Their oral health status and treatment needs were recorded using the modified WHO oral health assessment proforma.
