Article Synopsis
  • Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) shows diverse clinical and biological characteristics, complicating therapy choices, especially for older patients.
  • In a study of patients aged 60 and older treated with bendamustine and rituximab, key prognostic indicators included the simplified MCL international prognostic index (s-MIPI), MCL35 score, and blastoid cytology, which correlated with survival outcomes.
  • Combining robust proliferation assays like MCL35 with cytological evaluations and MIPI could help better classify and manage the risks of older MCL patients in future clinical trials.

Background: Ireland has the highest rates of overnight hospitalisations for COPD in the OECD, yet lacks estimates of the prevalence of this disease or its pharmacological management. We aimed to estimate the age and sex-specific prevalence of symptomatic COPD and to identify patterns of respiratory medication use to inform interventions to improve pharmacotherapy in this condition.

Methods: We used the national pharmacy claims database, with data on a publically insured cohort in 2016.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) may not suit all individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and may not result in increased physical activity. Higher levels of physical activity are associated with reduced mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of conducting a trial to investigate the effectiveness of a clinician-facilitated physical activity intervention (PAI) versus PR in improving physical activity in patients with COPD referred to PR.
