Background: Patients undergoing colectomy are at risk of numerous major complications. However, existing binary risk stratification models do not predict when a patient may be at highest risks of each complication. Accurate prediction of the timing of complications facilitates targeted, resource-efficient monitoring.

Lead migration is a common complication that may cause a loss of therapeutic effect in patients who may otherwise benefit from SCS. The timing of lead migration during the trial period is currently unknown.

Methods: This was a single-centre prospective cohort study of patients who underwent cardiac surgery with median sternotomy between September 2020 and March 2021.
Purpose: Patients with COVID-19 undergoing hip fracture surgeries have a 30-day mortality of up to 34%. We aimed to evaluate the association between anesthesia technique and 30-day mortality after hip fracture surgery in patients with COVID-19.
Methods: After ethics approval, we performed a retrospective cohort analysis of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data set from January to December 2021.
Background: Rebound pain occurs after up to 50% of ambulatory surgeries involving regional anaesthesia. To assist with risk stratification, we developed a model to predict severe rebound pain after foot and ankle surgery involving single-shot popliteal sciatic nerve block.
Methods: After ethics approval, we performed a single-centre retrospective cohort study.
Purpose: Novel devices such as the barrier enclosure were developed in hopes of improving provider safety by limiting SARS-CoV-2 transmission during tracheal intubation. Nevertheless, concerns arose regarding a lack of rigorous efficacy and safety data for these devices. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of the barrier enclosure on time to tracheal intubation.

We identified and appraised studies that tested interventions in populations of frail surgical patients to improve perioperative outcomes.
Methods: We systematically searched Cochrane, CINAHL, EMBASE and Medline to identify studies that tested interventions in populations of frail patients having surgery.
Upon reaction with PhI(OAc)(2), α-oxo-aldoximes are oxidized to α-oxo-nitrile oxides, while α-oxo-ketoximes are converted into nitrile oxides via the oxidative cleavage of the carbonyl-imino σ bond. The nitrile oxides thus formed were trapped with norbornene or styrene in good yield. α,α'-Dioxo-ketoximes react less efficiently.
