Visceral artery perfusion can be potentially affected by intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) catheters. We utilized an animal model to quantify the acute impact of a low balloon position on mesenteric artery perfusion. In six pigs (78 ± 7 kg), a 30-cc IABP was placed in the descending aorta in a transfemoral procedure.

Based on frequent findings of balloon malposition with visceral arterial compromise on computerized tomographic (CT) imaging studies, we conducted a systematic review of cardiac surgical IABP patients with available CT scans to determine reasons, incidence, and clinical relevance of malposition.
Methods And Results: From January 2007 to March 2009, a total of 621 of 7756 cardiac surgical patients (8.
The multitude of forms observed in flowering plants is largely because of their ability to establish new axes of growth during postembryonic development. This process is initiated by the formation of secondary meristems that develop into vegetative or reproductive branches. In the blind and torosa mutants of tomato, initiation of lateral meristems is blocked during shoot and inflorescence development, leading to a strong reduction in the number of lateral axes.

The double Ds structures bordering the insert are identical over a distance of approximately 3 kb. These double Ds structures and the DNA segments beyond them are in opposite orientation and identical over a distance of approx.

We suggest that the 2,040-bp sequence is an example of the transposable element Dissociation described by Barbara McClintock.

In an attempt to isolate the transposable genetic element Ds from Zea mays L., we cloned DNA fragments hybridizing to a cDNA clone derived from the sucrose synthase gene in a lambda vector (lambda::Zm Sh). The fragments cloned from wild-type and from the Ds-induced mutant sh-m5933 (lambda::Zm sh-m5933) share a segment 6 kb long while a contiguous segment of 15 kb of lambda::Zm sh-m5933 (mutant-derived DNA) does not hybridize to the DNA segment cloned from the wild-type.

The transposition of the IS2::Km, thus obtained, to lambda has been found and insertion sites were characterised.

IS-elements are devoid of easily recognizable transacting functions and exert their visible effects in the position cis only (recent reviews Calos and Miller 1980; Starlinger 1980). It has been a matter of debate, whether these elements encode functions for their own transposition. In the case of the E.

In Southern blotting to genomic BamHI-digested DNA, a single band only of approximately 20 Kb lights up, indicating that the sucrose synthetase gene is unique, or that closely linked copies are located on this DNA fragment.
