Introduction The severe consequences of acute kidney injury (AKI) have been well-documented in high-risk patient populations. However, the effects of milder forms in non-critically ill patients remain understudied, particularly in resource-limited settings. While the risk of mortality associated with these cases is considered low, it can still lead to various complications including prolonged hospitalization, which may influence long-term renal and patient survival.

Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a novel, primarily respiratory, coronavirus that became a pandemic when it spread to over 210 countries and led to the death of over six million people. There is no definitive treatment for COVID-19, but vaccines have been developed that can help prevent severe illness and death. Studies have investigated the effect of vaccination on disease severity and outcome, and the findings indicate that vaccination is linked to a significant reduction in the risk of hospitalization, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and disease mortality.
