The Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 2 (EBNA2) plays a key role in transformation of B-lymphocytes mediated by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and can induce tumor formation in transgenic mice. However, the precise mechanism underlying EBNA2-mediated tumorigenesis remains elusive. Here, we report that EBNA2 can compromise mitotic spindle checkpoint (MSC) induced by the spindle inhibitor nocodazole and cause chromosomal instability (CIN) in HEp-2, U2-OS and BJAB cells.

In the literature, it has been frequently reported that PV sleeves possess intrinsic spontaneous pacemaking activity and triggered activity in normal dogs and rabbits. In contrast, other research groups presented totally opposite findings which showed absence of such pacemakers in dogs, rabbits and rats.

Five fresh cadaver dissections were studied, focusing attention on the dorsal or plantar vascular dominance, position of the communicating branch between the dorsal and plantar system, the Gilbert classification, and the size of the first dorsal metatarsal artery (FDMA) and first plantar metatarsal artery (FPMA) to the great toe and second toe. Five compound flaps were performed on five patients with traumatic thumb amputation at the level of proximal metacarpal bone.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) can provide global and functional imaging of tumor angiogenesis. In this study, we performed bone marrow DCE-MRI prospectively at diagnosis and after induction chemotherapy in 78 de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and correlated it with treatment outcome.

Between January 1993 and April 2006, 12 cases of B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder were identified among 577 patients after allogeneic hematopoietic SCT (HSCT) with an overall incidence of 2.51% at 1 year.

Although widely adopted, very few studies have reported on how TCCC interventions are actually delivered on the battlefield, from a quality of care perspective.
Study Design: This was a prospective study of all trauma patients treated at the Role 3 multinational medical unit (MMU) at Kandahar Airfield Base from February 7, 2006 to May 30, 2006.
Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn can be effectively prevented by administration of anti-D to the mother. The administered IgG results in the attenuation of RBC-specific Ab production, a process termed Ab-mediated immune suppression (AMIS). Because in animal models of AMIS no major effect on T cell priming occurs, we hypothesized that the effect of the IgG on the immune system under AMIS conditions may involve a deficiency in B cell priming.

In this study, HBV carriers with newly diagnosed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) who underwent chemotherapy were randomized to either prophylactic (P) or therapeutic (T) lamivudine treatment groups. Group P patients started lamivudine from day 1 of the first course of chemotherapy and continued treatment until 2 months after completion of chemotherapy.

Methods: Fourteen men and women age 18-55 years not infected with human immunodeficiency virus who met study qualifications were randomized to receive placebo, 20 mg of omeprazole, or 40 mg of omeprazole daily. After seven days, the single-dose pharmacokinetic profile of an 800-mg dose of indinavir alone or in combination with 200 mg of ritonavir was evaluated.
Anti-D has been widely and effectively used in Rhesus blood group D negative mothers for the prevention of haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn; its mechanism of action however, often referred to as antibody-mediated immune suppression (AMIS), remains largely unresolved. We investigated, in a murine model, whether active immune suppression or clonal deletion mediated by anti-red blood cell (RBC) immunoglobulin G (IgG) could explain the phenomenon of AMIS. Transfusion of IgG-opsonized foreign RBCs (i.

Methods: Trauma registry data was used to identify all blunt trauma patients with ureteral or UPJ injuries, from 1 April 2001 to 30 November 2006.
Background: There is controversy about the appropriate sequence of urologic investigation in patients with pelvic fracture. Use of retrograde urethrography or cystography may interfere with regular pelvic CT scanning for arterial extravasation.
Study Design: We performed a retrospective study at a regional trauma center in Toronto, Canada.

Background/purpose: Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is particularly rare in Asia, including Taiwan. The report concerning its clinical features and treatment outcomes in Asians is limited. An exploration of the characteristics of HL in this area is of importance for future studies.

In this study, the characteristics of 37 h-MDS patients and 152 NH-MDS patients were compared. Peripheral-blood white blood cell counts and bone marrow blast percentage were lower in h-MDS patients than in NH-MDS patients (P=0.

Military personnel returning from Afghanistan and entering Canadian hospitals may be infected with multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. The Public Health Agency of Canada, in conjunction with the Canadian Forces, have developed an alert to inform hospitals of the potential for importation of Acinetobacter baumannii, and the appropriate precautionary measures that should be taken to prevent secondary spread within hospitals.

However, the prognostic implication of RUNX1 mutations in primary MDS is limited. The stage of the disease at which the mutations are acquired and whether they persist during the disease course also remain unclear.

We investigated the expression of Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie2, VEGF-A, and VEGF-C genes in bone marrow (BM) mononuclear cells by real-time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR) in a cohort of 126 patients with newly diagnosed de novo AML and normal marrow donors. Here we show that high pre-treatment levels of Ang-2 in the BM indicate an unfavorable prognosis in AML.

The most accepted theory to describe this activity of anti-D is based upon its ability to clear opsonized erythrocytes before their recognition by the maternal immune system. We examined this hypothesis using a murine model of immunity to foreign erythrocytes.
