The optimal pharmaceutical regimen for advanced thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) remains controversial when first-line chemotherapy fails. This retrospective study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib treatment for patients with relapsed and refractory TETs. Patients with progressive disease after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy were enrolled in this study.

Thin layer chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and multivariate statistical analysis were integrated in current study to provide a basis for the quality evaluation and the standard improvement of Paridis Rhizoma(Chinese name: Chong-lou). The results demonstrated that the primary saponins in the two authorized sources of Paridis Rhizoma were polyphyllinsⅠ, Ⅱ and Ⅶ, while the rhizome of Trillium tschonoskii an adulterant of Paridis Rhizoma was rich of polyphyllin Ⅵ. Therefore, the apparent content of polyphyllin Ⅵ plays a determinant role towards the source authentication of raw materials and decoction slices of Paridis Rhizoma, whose adulterants frequently occur in the market.

Article Synopsis
  • Cuscutae Semen includes salt-processed product (SPP) and wine-processed product (WPP), both used in traditional Chinese medicine, but their differences were previously unexplored.
  • A study compared the chemical components and effects of SPP and WPP on kidney-yang deficiency in rats over 28 days, revealing that SPP had higher levels of flavonoids and chlorogenic acids.
  • The findings showed that while both SPP and WPP improved reproductive function in the rats, they did so through different mechanisms linked to their distinct chemical contents and processing methods.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on using a noninvasive imaging technique, specifically radiomics, to identify EGFR mutations in lung adenocarcinoma patients, which is crucial for treatment but can be difficult to test through traditional methods.
  • - A total of 503 patients were analyzed, where a random forest model achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.802 for predicting EGFR mutations, which improved to 0.828 by incorporating clinical factors like sex and smoking history.
  • - While promising, the study concludes that further enhancements in accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity are needed for this image-based method to be implemented in clinical settings for diagnosis.

Background: We aim to analyze the ability to detect epithelial growth factor receptor () mutations on chest CT images of patients with lung adenocarcinoma using radiomics and/or multi-level residual convolutionary neural networks (MCNNs).

Methods: We retrospectively collected 1,010 consecutive patients in Shanghai Chest Hospital from 2013 to 2017, among which 510 patients were -mutated and 500 patients were wild-type. The patients were randomly divided into a training set (810 patients) and a validation set (200 patients) according to a balanced distribution of clinical features.

Objective:: Genetic phenotype plays a central role in making treatment decisions of lung adenocarcinoma, especially the tyrosine-kinase-inhibitors-sensitive mutations of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene. We constructed three-dimensional convolutional neural networks (CNN) to analyze underlying patterns in CT images that could indicate that EGFR gene mutation status but are invisible to human eyes.

Methods:: From 2012 to 2015, 503 Chinese patients with lung adenocarcinoma that had underwent surgery were included.
