For patients undergoing long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD), exposure to biologically incompatible PD solutions and the consequent peritoneal structure change can lead to progressive angiogenesis and fibrosis, and ultimately result in ultrafiltration failure (UFF). Peritoneal transport studies in aquaporin 1 (AQP1) knockout mice indicate that water transport across the peritoneum is mediated by AQP1, which accounts for up to 50% of ultrafiltration. Another recent study on a large cohort of PD patients with kidney failure further substantiated the impact of AQP1 genotype variation on water channel expression in the peritoneal membrane, influencing water transport, ultrafiltration, and patient prognosis.

Background: Studies have reported that metabolic disturbance exhibits in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Still, the presence of definitive evidence concerning the genetic effect of metabolites on AD risk remains insufficient. A systematic exploration of the genetic association between blood metabolites and AD would contribute to the identification of new targets for AD screening and prevention.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic, acupressure has been widely used as a complementary treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 in China, but its safety and effectiveness have not been determined until now. This was a prospectively observational study containing 400 cases of mild infection of Omicron who were admitted to Chongming Flower Expo Makeshift Hospital from April 1, 2022 to May 1, 2022. Patients were assigned to receive basic treatment or a combination with acupressure treatment (5 minutes per acupoint, at least twice daily), from admission to discharge.

Background And Purpose: Liver failure is associated with psychiatric alterations, partly resulting from the increased brain dopamine levels. We investigated the relationship between increased dopamine levels and mental abnormalities using bile duct ligation (BDL) rats and the mechanism by which liver failure increased dopamine levels in SH-SY5Y cells. Behavioural tests were carried out on day 13 and 27 following BDL, along with measurements of dopamine and metabolites, expressions of enzymes and transporters related to dopamine metabolism, and its transport into the cortex and the hippocampus.

Diabetes is often associated with vitamin A disorders. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) is the main active constituent of vitamin A. We aimed to investigate whether ATRA influences diabetic progression and its mechanisms using both Goto-Kazizazi (GK) rats and INS-1 cells.

Objective: To observe the efficacy of moxibustion combined with acupuncture at -well points on the differentiated meridians and routine acupuncture for vascular dementia (VD) and its effect on serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE).

Methods: A total of 60 patients with VD were randomized into an observation group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a control group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped off). In the observation group, moxibustion combined with acupuncture at -well points on the differentiated meridians and routine acupuncture were adopted, moxibustion was applied at Baihui (GV 20), Dazhui (GV 14) and Shenting (GV 24); acupuncture at -well points on the differentiated meridians was applied at corresponding -well points according to pattern of syndrome; routine acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), etc.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy differences between needle-knife combined with pseudo-ginseng-cake moxibustion and oral administration of western medication for primary knee osseous arthritis (PKOA) of blood stasis syndrome.

Methods: Sixty cases of PKOA of blood stasis syndrome were randomly assigned to an observation group and a control group. Patients in the observation group (30 patients, 38 knees) were treated with needle-knife combined with pseudo-ginseng-cake moxibustion, while patients in the control group (30 patients, 36 knees) were oral administration of western medication.
