Purpose: Mannitol is one of the first-line drugs for reducing cerebral edema through increasing the extracellular osmotic pressure. However, long-term administration of mannitol in the treatment of cerebral edema triggers damage to neurons and astrocytes. Given that neural stem cell (NSC) is a subpopulation of main regenerative cells in the central nervous system after injury, the effect of mannitol on NSC is still elusive.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the impact of different road types on road traffic accidents (RTAs) in northern Guizhou, highlighting an increase in deaths due to RTAs and the lack of focus on road type influence in previous research.
  • - Data from 2009-2018 was analyzed, revealing that while mortality rates for administrative and functional roads decreased over time, county and fourth-class roads had the highest death rates among their respective categories.
  • - The findings indicate that despite a recent decline in RTAs, further measures are needed to significantly improve safety, as the mortality rate per vehicle is correlated negatively with the region's GDP growth.
