The deliberately origin mislabeling of sweet cherry causes significantly disruptions to market integrity and consumers' trust. In this study, 153 cherry samples from five provinces in China and the corresponding irrigation water and soil samples were collected. 5 stable isotope ratios (δC, δN, δH, δO, Sr/Sr) and 8 multi-element contents (Na, Mg, P, K, Ca, Fe, Zn, Se) of cherry were determined by EA-IRMS and ICP-MS to study isotopic fractionation and elemental enrichment mechanisms for origin traceability.

In this work, a soft matter system with multi-scale energy dissipation structure is designed to realize flexible sensing and detection by biomimetic human touch. At the molecular scale, the supramolecular interactions are introduced into the hydrogel system, including the hydrophobic interaction and the ion attraction between macromolecular segments.

An integrally formed Janus supramolecular bio-gel with intelligent adhesion for multifunctional healthcare.

Despite the rapid development of Janus adhesive hydrogels, most of them still entail complex fabrication processes and have the inherent flaws, such as fragility and instability, thereby restricting their biomedical applications. In this study, a novel Janus bio-gel with strong mechanical and intelligent adhesion functions is facilely fabricated through a gravity-driven settlement strategy, employing poly-cyclodextrin microspheres (PCDMs). This strategy takes advantage of the sedimentation behavior of PCDMs with various diameters to establish structural disparities on both sides of the Janus bio-gel, thereby resolving multiple predicaments including the tedious synthesis steps and poor bonding of multilayer hydrogels.

Background: Stress hyperglycemia is now more common in intensive care unit (ICU) patients and is strongly associated with poor prognosis. Whether this association exists in critically ill patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) is unknown. This study investigated the prognostic relationship of stress hyperglycemia on critically ill patients with CS.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. IPF patients who received ECMO during lung transplantation admitted to the Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from 2019 to 2020 were enrolled.

This study systematically evaluated the efficacy and safety of different Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional western medicine in the treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF) and ranked for the drug selection. Randomized controlled trial(RCT) on Chinese patent medicines in treatment of HFpEF were obtained from the CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, Web of Science, and other databases from the inception to October 9, 2022. The included RCT was quantitatively analyzed using gemtc and rjags packages of R software for the network Meta-analysis.

Comparison of Regional Saturation Biopsy, Targeted Biopsy, and Systematic Biopsy in Patients with Prostate-specific Antigen Levels of 4-20 ng/ml: A Prospective, Single-center, Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Despite the use of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI)-guided targeted biopsy (TB) to identify suspicious prostate lesions, it may still miss clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) or result in false-negative findings. Recent evidence suggests that combining biopsies taken from within and around magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesions can improve the detection of csPCa.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of the regional saturation biopsy (RSB) method, involving template-based nine-core biopsies for suspected regions, with that of the MRI-directed TB and/or the systematic biopsy (SB) methods in biopsy-naïve patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels ranging from 4 to 20 ng/ml.

Itaconic acid, known for its excellent biological and reaction activities, has not been extensively studied for the preparation of itaconic acid-based hydrogels and their application in infected wound healing.

Narcolepsy and cardiovascular disease: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Observational findings suggest that patients with narcolepsy are at higher risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), but the potential causal relationship between narcolepsy and CVDs is unclear. Therefore, Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to explore the association between narcolepsy and CVDs.

Methods: Summary statistics related to narcolepsy, coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), any stroke (AS), and any ischemic stroke (AIS) were extracted from the public database of relevant published genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Microbial Relationship of Carious Deciduous Molars and Adjacent First Permanent Molars.

(1) Epidemiological studies have shown that deciduous molar caries are related to and more severe than permanent molar caries. This study aimed to investigate whether caries subtypes in deciduous molars were associated with caries in first permanent molars and to explore taxonomic and functional profiles of the microbiota involved in different subtypes. (2) 42 mixed-dentition children were recruited and were divided into DMC (carious deciduous molars but caries-free first permanent molars; = 14), C (carious deciduous and first permanent molars; = 13), and control ( = 15) groups.

Flagship birds play a key role in raising conservation funds, increasing awareness of biodiversity conservation, and maintaining ecosystem services. This study selected flagship bird species in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, China, and assessed their conservation effectiveness and ability to serve as umbrella species.

Bioinspired Adhesive Antibacterial Hydrogel with Self-Healing and On-Demand Removability for Enhanced Full-Thickness Skin Wound Repair.

Adhesive-caused injury is a great threat for extensive full-thickness skin trauma because extra-strong adhesion can incur unbearable pain and exacerbate trauma upon removal. Herein, inspired by the mussel, we designed and fabricated an adhesive antibacterial hydrogel dressing based on dynamic host-guest interaction that enabled on-demand stimuli-triggered removal to effectively care for wounds. In contrast with most hard-to-removable dressing, this adhesive antibacterial hydrogel exhibited strong adhesion property (85 kPa), which could achieve painless and noninvasive on-demand separation within 2 s through a host-guest competition mechanism (amantadine).

Injectable Bioactive Antioxidative One-Component Polycitrate Hydrogel with Anti-Inflammatory Effects for Osteoarthritis Alleviation and Cartilage Protection.

Chronic inflammation in osteoarthritis (OA) can destroy the cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM), causing cartilage damage and further exacerbating the inflammation. Effective regulation of the inflammatory microenvironment has important clinical significance for OA alleviation and cartilage protection. Polycitrate-based polymers have good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory abilities but cannot self-polymerize to form hydrogels.

A novel multi-scale pressure sensing hydrogel for monitoring the physiological signals of long-term bedridden patients.

For long-term bedridden patients who need to wear diapers, the timely replacement of diapers is very important to ensure their quality of life. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a pressure sensor that can monitor the physiological conditions of patients in real time. Inspired by the multi-scale network structure of the multi-fiber protein in the muscle, a multi-scale hydrogel as a pressure sensor was prepared by introducing micron-scale hydrogel microspheres as physical crosslinking agents.
