This study investigated the effects of short-term exposure to flavonoids, specifically quercetin and taxifolin, on the transcriptomic responses of Chinese sucker (Myxocyprinus asiaticus) to validate their influence on gene expression related to immunity, antioxidant activity, and metabolism. Using transcriptomic data, we also analyzed their influence on relevant immune genes and examined the Chinese suckers' resistance to A. hydrophila.

Achieving high efficiency narrowband near-ultraviolet (NUV) emitters in organic light emitting diode (OLED) is still a formidable challenge. Herein, a proof-of-concept hybridized local and charge transfer (HLCT) molecule, named ICz-BO, is prepared and characterized, in which both multiresonant (MR) skeletons are integrated via conjugation connection. A slightly distorted structure and weak intramolecular charge transfer (CT) interaction between two MR subunits lead to a high-lying reverse intersystem crossing (h-RISC) channel of T→S, also evidenced by both experimental and calculated results.

Plant non-specific lipid transfer protein (nsLTP) is able to bind and transport lipids and essential oils, as well as engage in various physiological processes, including defense against phytopathogens. Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi (Lavender Scallops) is an attractive and versatile succulent. To investigate the functional mechanism of Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi nsLTP (Ka-nsLTP), we expressed, purified and successfully obtained monomeric Ka-nsLTP.

Motivation: Molecular representation learning is pivotal for advancing deep learning applications in quantum chemistry and drug discovery. Existing methods for molecular representation learning often fall short of fully capturing the intricate interactions within chemical bonds of 2D topological graphs and the multifaceted effects of 3D geometric conformations.

Results: To overcome these challenges, we present a novel contrastive learning strategy for molecular representation learning, named Geometric Triangle Awareness Model (GTAM).

We investigated the effects of different nanoplastic (NP, size = 100 nm) concentrations on red crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) and examined toxicity mechanisms. We established four concentration groups (control (CK): 0 μg/L; Low: 100 μg/L; Medium: 500 μg/L; and High: 1000 μg/L) and analyzed toxicity effects in C. quadricarinatus hepatopancreas using histopathological, transcriptomic, metabolomic, and fluorescence methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Rosacea affects up to 10% of skin of color (SOC) populations in some countries, indicating a significant prevalence.
  • Traditional treatments for rosacea include intense pulsed light (IPL) and pulsed dye laser (PDL), but these may not be safe for all skin types.
  • The review highlights the top seven safe laser and energy-based devices (EBDs) specifically for treating rosacea in SOC individuals to minimize risks like hyperpigmentation and scarring.*

Objectives: Individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia have a high incidence and fatality rates due to pneumonia. Sarcopenia is a contributing factor to the development of pneumonia in patients with schizophrenia. In this study, we examine the effectiveness of three simple screening questionnaires, namely SARC-F, SARC-CalF, and SARC-F + EBM, in predicting the occurrence of pneumonia in stable patients with schizophrenia who are experiencing sarcopenia.

Objective: To deepen the imaging-pathological mechanism of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) and provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment, the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) characteristics of PCNSL were analyzed, and the relationship between the fMRI characteristics and vasculogenic mimicry (VM) and reticular fiber in PCNSL was discussed.

Methods: Ninety-six patients with PCNSL treated in our hospital were divided into three groups according to the pathological examination results, including strong positive group of VM (n = 40), weak positive group of VM (n = 56), strong positive group of reticular fiber (n = 45) and weak positive group of reticular fiber (n = 51). The levels of augmentation index and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) were compared among the groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Nano-plastics, specifically polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs), are increasingly found in aquatic environments, but their toxic effects on freshwater shrimp (Neocaridina palmata) have not been extensively studied.
  • The study exposed shrimp to PS-NPs of two different sizes (75 nm and 200 nm) over 35 days, revealing significant impacts on genetic expression, growth, and damage to internal organs, particularly affecting energy metabolism and causing apoptosis.
  • Results indicated that while larger PS-NPs (200 nm) were more fluorescent, smaller PS-NPs (75 nm) led to greater apoptosis rates and altered gut bacteria profiles, with a decrease in beneficial bacteria being linked to oxidative stress impacts.

The widespread presence of microplastics and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) in the environment has become a critical public health issue due to their potential to infiltrate and affect various biological systems. Our review is crucial as it consolidates current data and provides a comprehensive analysis of the cardiovascular impacts of MPs/NPs across species, highlighting significant implications for human health. By synthesizing findings from studies on aquatic and terrestrial organisms, including humans, this review offers insights into the ubiquity of MPs/NPs and their pathophysiological roles in cardiovascular systems.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent sleep breathing disorder characterized by intermittent hypoxia (IH), with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) as its standard treatment. However, the effects of intermittent hypoxia/reoxygenation (IH/R) on weight regulation in obesity and its underlying mechanism remain unclear. Gut microbiota has gained attention for its strong association with various diseases.

The spread of renewable energy (RE) generation not only promotes the economy and environmental protection, but also brings uncertainty to the power system. As the integration of hydrogen and electricity can effectively mitigate the fluctuation of RE generation, an electricity-hydrogen integrated energy system is constructed. Then, this paper studies the source-load uncertainties and corresponding correlation as well as the electricity-hydrogen price uncertainties and corresponding correlation.

This study aims to investigate the essential oil(EOL) of Cinnamomum camphora regarding its anti-depression effect and mechanism in regulating inflammatory cytokines and the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) pathway. A mouse model of depression was established by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Open field, elevated plus maze, and forced swimming tests were carried out to examine mouse behaviors.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serves as a critical biomarker for the early detection and continuous monitoring of prostate cancer. However, commercial PSA detection methods primarily rely on antigen-antibody interactions, leading to issues such as high costs, stringent storage requirements, and potential cross-reactivity due to PSA variant sequence homology. This study is dedicated to the precise design and synthesis of molecular entities tailored for binding with PSA.
