Introduction: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have demonstrated neuroprotective effects and hold potential advantages in enhancing cognitive function. This study aims to clarify the association between SGLT2 inhibitors and the risk of dementia among individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Methods: All cohort studies concerning the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on dementia onset in patients with T2D were identified.
The dark and anoxic environment of ballast tank sediment (BTS) harbors substantial amounts of relic DNA, yet its impact on microbial diversity estimates in BTS management remains poorly understood. This study employed propidium monoazide (PMA) treatment to eliminate relic DNA and used 16S amplicon high-throughput sequencing to characterize both total and viable bacteria. Our findings revealed that relic DNA is abundant in BTS.

MPs pollution in soils has been attracting the scientific community due to the increasing contaminant areas and continuous accumulation, leading to a high risk to crop production. In addition, recent studies have observed that long-term exposure to MPs could seriously harm the soil ecosystem because of their fine particle size and persistence in soils.

Recent studies have highlighted the role of alternative splicing in cancer metastasis, although the precise mechanisms underlying aberrant splicing in OS invasion and metastasis remain unclear. Here, we analyzed consistently differentially expressed genes and differentially alternative splicing events between primary and metastatic OS to identify potential genes associated with OS progression.

In plants, nitrate reductase (NR) is a key enzyme for NO biosynthesis. There are two NR-encoding genes in Arabidopsis genome, NIA1 and NIA2, which are precisely regulated and expressed in a tissue-specific manner.

Objectives: This study aimed to address the lack of gene expression regulation data in synovial tissues and to identify conditionally independent genes associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the synovium, a primary target tissue for RA.
Methods: Gene expression prediction models were built for synovial tissue using matched genotype and gene expression data from 202 subjects. Using this model, we conducted transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS), utilizing the largest RA genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis data (n = 276 020).
The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) holds great potential for sustainable hydrogen production but developing efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts remains challenging. Here, we report the synthesis of a hierarchical WC/NiCoW hollow nanotube array electrocatalyst, featuring rapid gas release to minimize bubble aggregation and reaction retardation. Mechanistic insights into the HER kinetics reveal enhanced electron transfer at the WC-NiCoW interface and an accelerated Volmer step.

Exosomes, as a class of extracellular vesicles, are secreted by nearly all cell types and encapsulate a variety of nucleic acids and proteins reflective of their cell of origin, thereby facilitating critical intercellular communication. Recent advancements in understanding these exosomes have catalyzed their application in oncology, particularly through uncovering their roles in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapy of cancers.

Methods: A prospective study included 24,611 Chinese aged 50+ years and without CVD at 2003-2008 from Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study. QT interval was corrected by Bazett, Fridericia, Framingham and Hodges formulas.
While maritime transport boosts global trade by shipping bulk goods, it raises concerns about the spread of harmful bacteria via ballast water. Moreover, the dark and cold environments of ballast tanks often harbor extracellular DNA from dead organisms, leading to false positives in traditional environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding analyses. Here, we alternatively employed environmental RNA (eRNA) metabarcoding to assess its potential for reducing false positive in ballast water monitoring.

Droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) presents unparalleled sensitivity and enables absolute quantification of viral load. In this prospective study, we enrolled 111 patients with SFTS and collected 259 continuous samples.

Optimizing electric field distribution and crystallography to modulate the diffusion and deposition behavior of zinc ions can effectively suppress dendrite growth. However, the fabrication strategy to directly endow specific textured zinc anodes with gradient electric field distribution is still lacking.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a severe hematologic malignancy driven by genetic and epigenetic changes that lead to the transformation of leukemia stem cells (LSCs). Since somatic mutations in DNA methylation-related genes frequently occur in AML, DNA methylation is widely altered and functions as a starting engine for initiating AML.
