Article Synopsis
  • Xylazine is increasingly being used as a street drug, leading to global cases of poisoning, but its long-term effects on liver health, specifically nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), are still unclear.
  • In a study, rats given xylazine for 28 days showed weight loss and elevated liver enzymes, indicating liver damage; histopathological analysis confirmed the presence of steatosis, necrosis, and fibrosis in the liver.
  • Genetic analysis revealed significant changes in gene expression linked to the PPAR signaling pathway, suggesting that this pathway is crucial in the development of xylazine-induced liver injury and NAFLD.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a powerful toxic gas in workplace incidents, and it poses a threat to colleagues or family members involved in rescues, leading to a "domino effect" of multiple deaths. In this report, we describe three incidents in which 10 people died, and we present the results of the analyses performed in different incidents, including paper pulp pit, sewer, and sewage well. We provide the macroscopic and morphological findings of ten victims, which include conjunctival hemorrhage, corneal erosion, pulmonary edema, and pulmonary hemorrhage.

Straddle injuries are those to the perineum region brought on by straddling or riding over something, such as a horse, vehicle, or other object. The motorcycle fuel tank or handlebars are primarily responsible for the typical injury to the perineum area in motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle straddle injury usually manifest as abrasions to the scrotum or penis, and severe cases can cause pelvic fractures or even testicular dislocation.

Chlorpromazine (CPZ), a first-generation antipsychotic, is widely used in treating schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. However, CPZ is also associated with an increased likelihood of sudden cardiac death, and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In our study, we aimed to determine the CPZ-induced changes in some members of the heat shock protein family in rat hearts and further explore the possible mechanisms of CPZ-induced cardiotoxicity.
