Introduction: An occupational accident involving exposure to biological material is characterized by worker's contact with organic fluids during the working day and in Brazil it is considered a condition of compulsory declaration.

Objectives: To analyze the profile of victims of occupational accident involving exposure to biological material in the city of Palmas, state of Tocantins, from 2010 to 2020.

Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study using the Notifiable Diseases Information System.

Article Synopsis
  • Humidity is really important for measuring things, and scientists have to think about how temperature affects these measurements when making special sensors called thermo-hygrometer fiber sensors.
  • The sensors use special optical fibers that need to be protected from humidity so they don't give wrong readings.
  • In this study, researchers created new types of optical fibers that work well in different temperatures and tested them, making sure they are very accurate even over long distances.

To ascertain whether male workers from Palmas, Tocantins state, northern Brazil, are more likely to have occupational accidents compared to female workers, all cases of serious occupational accidents reported between 2009 and 2019 were extracted from the Brazilian Notifiable Diseases Information System and compared with the economically active population according to sex. Men were found to be 6.2 times more likely to have a serious occupational accident compared to women.

Introduction: Emergency care units provide intermediate complexity care services, are open 24 hours a day, and are frequently required to attend to high levels of demand, especially so during the Covid-19 pandemic. On-duty shift work at emergency care units is highly conducive to causing excessive stress.

Objectives: To identify the risk factors for excessive stress among workers at the North emergency care unit, in Palmas, Tocantins, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • Dogs and cats can carry Q fever, a zoonotic disease caused by the pathogen Coxiella burnetii, with concerns about transmission during events like birthing and abortion, potentially involving ticks as vectors.
  • A study conducted in Portugal in 2012 and 2021 tested 294 dogs and cats for C. burnetii exposure using blood samples and DNA from uterine samples and ticks.
  • Results showed a significant decrease in seropositivity for C. burnetii in both dogs (from 12.6% to 1.7%) and cats (from 17.2% to 0.0%) over the nine years, indicating that exposure is low, especially in rural areas, although monitoring

Ovarian teratomas are occasionally reported in dogs; the rarest type is the monophasic teratoma, composed of tissues originating from only one germ layer. Canine endometrial adenocarcinomas are also rare in dogs and mainly affect geriatric females. This report describes the case of co-existing ovarian teratoma and uterine adenocarcinoma in a 10-year-old nulliparous female Boxer presented with lethargy, anorexia and purulent vaginal discharge.

Conjugated polymers (CPs) have proved to be promising chemosensory materials for detecting nitroaromatic explosives vapors, as they quickly convert a chemical interaction into an easily-measured high-sensitivity optical output. The nitroaromatic analytes are strongly electron-deficient, whereas the conjugated polymer sensing materials are electron-rich. As a result, the photoexcitation of the CP is followed by electron transfer to the nitroaromatic analyte, resulting in a quenching of the light-emission from the conjugated polymer.

The effectiveness of electrokinetic remediation for soils depends on several factors such as the arrangement and shape of electrodes. This paper presents a numerical study on external electrostatic field generated by seven different electrode configurations in any unbounded two-dimensional domain. The boundary condition at infinity for the voltage is approximated by the iterative algorithm that expands the domain till the limit of the specified tolerance (threshold value).

The association between plasmacytomas and multiple myeloma (MM) is well-described, and in about one third of the cases of plasmacytoma the additional study will lead to the diagnosis of MM. The finding of plasmacytomas in the genital tract is extremely rare, with sparse cases described in the literature, and these cases pose a challenge regarding the optimal guidance and treatment. This paper describes a case of uterine extramedullary plasmacytoma in a 79-year-old woman with complaints of postmenopausal abnormal uterine bleeding.

This paper considers the relationship between self-regulation strategies and youth civic and political experiences, assuming that out-of-school learning can foster metacognition. The study is based on a sample of 732 Portuguese students from grades 8 and 11. Results show that the quality of civic and political participation experiences, together with academic self-efficacy, are significant predictors of young people's self-regulation, particularly regarding cognitive and metacognitive strategies (elaboration and critical thinking).

Objective: Metastases to the urinary bladder are rare, representing less than 2% of bladder tumors. We report two cases of bladder involvement by primary gastric adenocarcinoma and perform a bibliographic review of the literature on this subject.

Methods: A search for published data was performed in the PubMed database using the key words "bladder", "secondary malignant tumors" and "metastatic gastric carcinoma".

The aneurismatic aortic disease is one of the most frequent conditions challenging the vascular surgeon. It can be caused by atherosclerosis, vasculitis, trauma, infection or others. The treatment, even when elective, can be associated to high rates of morbid-mortality, related to the etiology, anatomic location and type of treatment.
