Introduction: Ischemic stroke is a significant global health concern, with reperfusion therapies playing a vital role in patient management. Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) has been suggested as a potential biomarker for assessing stroke severity and prognosis, however, the role of NSE in predicting long-term outcomes in patients undergoing reperfusion therapies is still scarce.

Aim: To investigate the association between serum NSE levels at admission and 48 h after reperfusion therapies, and functional outcomes at 90 days in ischemic stroke patients.

We investigated the locomotor muscle metaboreflex control of ventilation, circulation, and dyspnea in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Ten patients [forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1; means ± SD) = 43 ± 17% predicted] and nine age- and sex-matched controls underwent ) cycling exercise followed by postexercise circulatory occlusion (PECO) to activate the metaboreflex or free circulatory flow to inactivate it, ) cold pressor test to interpret whether any altered reflex response was specific to the metaboreflex arc, and ) muscle biopsy to explore the metaboreflex arc afferent side. We measured airflow, dyspnea, heart rate, arterial pressure, muscle blood flow, and vascular conductance during reflexes activation.

TRANSESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY (TEE) is carried out in various clinical settings, with an increasing importance, and sedation usually is required to perform it. Several sedative agents are available, and the authors aimed to compare the cardiovascular and respiratory safety of the strategies used for sedation in TEE through a systematic review with network meta-analysis (NMA). The MEDLINE, CENTRAL, EMBASE, and PsycInfo databases were searched in December 2020 for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing sedation strategies for patients undergoing TEE.

Patients with COPD present with systemic vascular malfunctioning and their microcirculation is possibly more fragile to overcome an increase in the sympathetic vasoconstrictor outflow during sympathoexcitatory situations. To test the skeletal muscle microvascular responsiveness to sympathoexcitation, we asked patients with COPD and age- and sex-matched controls to immerse a hand in iced water [Cold Pressor Test (CPT)]. Near-infrared spectroscopy detection of the indocyanine green dye in the intercostal and vastus lateralis microcirculation provided a blood flow index (BFI).

The objectives of this trial were to evaluate the effect of corn processing during the finishing phase on feedlot cattle performance and carcass characteristics. We hypothesized that steers fed dry-rolled corn would have better feed efficiency (less feed necessary to the same amount of gain) than steers fed whole shelled corn. Ninety-five backgrounded Angus-cross cattle (initial body weight [BW] = 263 ± 9.

The objectives of this trial were to evaluate the association between corn processing, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) concentration, and intramuscular (IM) fat deposition. We hypothesized that steers fed whole shelled corn (WSC) would have a greater IM fat deposition than steers fed cracked corn (CC) due to an increase in plasma GIP concentration. Backgrounded, Angus-cross cattle (initial body weight [BW] = 279 ± 9.

In recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of new species potentially belonging to the Totiviridae family. Most of these new viruses have not yet been covered by the Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) official classification. In this study, a phylogenetic analysis including new sequences of Totiviridae candidates revealed a clade including Giardiavirus and a great diversity of new totiviruses, which infect arthropods, protozoa and mollusc.

Relapse represents the most significant cause of failure of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for FLT3-ITD-positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and available therapies are largely unsatisfactory. In this study, we retrospectively collected data on the off-label use of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor sorafenib, either alone or in association with hypomethylating agents and adoptive immunotherapy, in 13 patients with post-transplantation FLT3-ITD-positive AML relapses. Hematological response was documented in 12 of 13 patients (92%), and five of 13 (38%) achieved complete bone marrow remission.

Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) performed using bone marrow (BM) grafts and post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) has gained much interest for the excellent toxicity profile after both reduced-intensity and myeloablative conditioning. We investigated, in a cohort of 40 high-risk hematological patients, the feasibility of peripheral blood stem cells grafts after a treosulfan-melphalan myeloablative conditioning, followed by a PTCy and sirolimus-based graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis (Sir-PTCy). Donor engraftment occurred in all patients, with full donor chimerism achieved by day 30.
