In Côte d'Ivoire, there is a high intensity of pyrethroid resistance in malaria vectors which may threaten successful vector control. Molecular studies of the target site mutation in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) show that the gene frequencies of these mutations are high, widely spread across Côte d'Ivoire, and even fixed in some areas. To further characterize insecticide resistance in Côte d'Ivoire beyond target site mutations, the metabolic resistance mechanism was explored.

Background: Entomological surveillance provides critical information on vectors for appropriate malaria vector control and strategic decision-making. The widely documented insecticide resistance of malaria vectors in Côte d'Ivoire requires that any vector control intervention deployment be driven by entomological data to optimize its effectiveness and appropriate resource allocations. Background: The use of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) is one of the main malaria prevention method promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Côte d'Ivoire. LLIN-coverage has reached 95% since 2015 and nearly 16 million LLINs were distributed in 2017. Despite these efforts, malaria incidence at the national level remains high (120‰ in 2012 to 164‰ in 2017) although this could be partly explained by increased screening efforts.

Background: Pyrethroid-treated mosquito nets are currently the mainstay of vector control in Côte d'Ivoire. However, resistance to pyrethroids has been reported across the country, limiting options for insecticide resistance management due to the paucity of alternative insecticides. Malaria remains a public health problem in Côte d'Ivoire despite a 95% coverage rate with long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets (LLINs) since 2015. A study was conducted in Bouaké to determine the residual efficacy of LLINs used during 17 months (N = 30) and of stored and unpacked LLINs (N = 8). A longitudinal entomologic study was carried out in the village of Ganse located in the Northeastern Ivory Coast from July 2000 to July 2001. The threefold purpose of the study was to index Plasmodium-carrying Anopheles species by capturing mosquitoes on human volunteers, collecting larvae in different dwelling types, and evaluating the involvement each species in the malaria transmission.
