In photoaged human skin, type I collagen fragmentation impairs dermal extracellular matrix (ECM) integrity, resulting in collapsed/contracted fibroblasts with reduced type I procollagen synthesis. Injections of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (CL-HA) reverse these deleterious changes. To investigate the time course and effects of biochemical changes induced by injected CL-HA, particularly whether fibroblast activation leads to accumulation/deposition of dermal collagen, we injected CL-HA into photoaged skin of human participants over 60 years-old and performed biochemical/microscopic analyses of skin samples.

Precision oncology, where patients are given therapies based on their genomic profile and disease trajectory, is rapidly evolving to become a pivotal part of cancer management, supported by regulatory approvals of biomarker-matched targeted therapies and cancer immunotherapies. However, next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based technologies have revealed an increasing number of molecular-based cancer subtypes with rare patient populations, leading to difficulties in executing/recruiting for traditional clinical trials. Purpose: Scales for rating acute radiation dermatitis (ARD) have not been validated despite decades of clinical use, and little is known regarding the relationship between toxicity scores and patient-reported symptoms. Skin tone also complicates assessment of ARD, and as such we sought to design an illustrated scale to consistently describe ARD across several skin tone types in breast cancer patients undergoing radiation (RT).

Aim: The objective of this study was to examine the time-varying relationship of chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorder (CKD-MBD) related biochemical parameters (parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, phosphate) over a 12-month period.

Material And Methods: Using data from a large US provider of dialysis services from 2010 through 2012, we constructed a cohort of adult patients receiving in-center hemodialysis who had biochemical parameters measured at both baseline and 12 months of follow-up. We used descriptive statistics to assess the overall distributions of the biochemical parameters at both measurements, to examine how patients transitioned between categories for each biochemical parameter, and to evaluate how the biochemical parameters changed with respect to each other.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a benign histiocytic tumor predominantly occurring in children as yellowish papules on the head and trunk. Presentations on the volar surfaces are rare and may cause diagnostic confusion with pyogenic granuloma, eccrine poroma and digital fibrokeratoma. Importance: Older adults are often excluded from clinical trials. The benefit of preventive interventions tested in younger trial populations may be reduced when applied to older adults in the clinical setting if they are less likely to survive long enough to experience those outcomes targeted by the intervention.
