Article Synopsis
  • Cardiovascular electronic devices can identify atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs), but the specific predictors of significant AHREs were not well understood until this study.
  • In a study of 145 patients, around 30.3% experienced AHREs over a six-month period, with data collected on risk factors using Cox regression analysis.
  • Key risk factors linked to the development of AHREs included prior use of anti-arrhythmic drugs, history of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, percentage of premature atrial contractions recorded on ECG, and left ventricular global longitudinal strain measurements.

Objective: This study aims to describe the diagnostic performance of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), alpha-fetoprotein L3 isoform (AFP-L3), protein induced by vitamin K absence II (PIVKA-II), and combined biomarkers for non-B non-C hepatocellular carcinoma (NBNC-HCC).

Results: A total of 681 newly-diagnosed primary liver disease subjects (385 non-HCC, 296 HCC) who tested negativity for the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis C antibody (anti-HCV) enrolled in this study. At the cut-off point of 3.

Background: MicroRNA-1246 (miR-1246), an oncomiR that regulates the expression of multiple cancer-related genes, has been attracted and studied as a promising indicator of various tumors. However, diverse conclusions on diagnostic accuracy have been shown due to the small sample size and limited studies included. This meta-analysis is aimed at systematically assessing the performance of extracellular circulating miR-1246 in screening common cancers.

Background: Popliteal artery injuries are uncommon and often result in limb loss or long-term limb dysfunction. The aims of this study were (1) to evaluate the association between predictors and outcomes and (2) to validate the rational of systematic early fasciotomy.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 122 patients (80% men, n = 100) who underwent surgery for popliteal artery injuries from October 2018 to March 2021 in southern Vietnam.

In January 2020, we identified two severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected patients in a familial cluster with one person coming from Wuhan, China. The complete genome sequences of two SARS-CoV-2 strains isolated from these patients were identical and 99.98% similar to strains isolated in Wuhan.
