From the leaves of Tithonia diversifolia, nine sesquiterpenoids (1-9), including two new ones (tagitinin J (1) and tagitinin K (2)) were isolated and structurally determined. Their chemical structures were elucidated by extensive analyses of the HRESIMS and NMR spectral data, as well as comparison with the literature. All of the isolated compounds (except compounds 7-9) significantly exhibited cytotoxic activity against four human cancer cell lines (KB, HepG2, A549 and MCF7), with IC values ranging from 0.

Bis(3-indolyl)methanes (BIMs) are known for their important bioactivities, which include anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. In this study, we are disclosing a metal catalyst-free synthesis of BIMs in high yields the alkylation reaction of indoles and alcohols in the presence of lithium -butoxide base. Notably, oxygen in air played an important role as an oxidant for the facilitation of this transformation.

Background: Retinoblastoma (RB), an intraocular malignancy commonly diagnosed in children, is mostly caused by inactivating mutations of both alleles of the RB1 gene. Early genetic screening for RB1 gene mutations would greatly improve treatment outcomes and patient management.

Methods: In this study, both somatic and germline mutations were detected in blood and tumour samples of 42 RB patients using direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification.

Rechargeable aqueous Zn/S batteries exhibit high capacity and energy density. However, the long-term battery performance is bottlenecked by the sulfur side reactions and serious Zn anode dendritic growth in the aqueous electrolyte medium. This work addresses the problem of sulfur side reactions and zinc dendrite growth simultaneously by developing a unique hybrid aqueous electrolyte using ethylene glycol as a co-solvent.

Drake, a flowering medical plant in the Rubiaceae, exists uncertainly within the genus' evolutionary relationships. For the first time, the whole chloroplast (cp) genome of an Drake species was sequenced and annotated. Our findings demonstrate that the complete cp genome of is 154,770 bp in size, encoding a total of 128 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNAs, and 33 tRNAs.

Metastable 1T'-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (1T'-TMDs) with semi-metallic natures have attracted increasing interest owing to their uniquely distorted structures and fascinating phase-dependent physicochemical properties. However, the synthesis of high-quality metastable 1T'-TMD crystals, especially for the group VIB TMDs, remains a challenge. Here, we report a general synthetic method for the large-scale preparation of metastable 1T'-phase group VIB TMDs, including WS, WSe, MoS, MoSe, WSSe and MoSSe.

Among the 2-arylbenzofuran derivatives isolated from Morus alba, the farnesylated 2-arylbenzofuran is a rarer constituent. The derivative has been reported to exert anti-obesity effect; however, its inhibitory effect on protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) has not been investigated. In the previous study, the presence of the farnesyl group in the structure of 2-arylbenzofurans was found to have positive influences on their pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity.

Atomically thin layers of transition-metal dichalcogenides semiconductors, such as MoS, exhibit strong and circularly polarized light emission due to inherent crystal symmetries, pronounced spin-orbit coupling, and out-of-plane dielectric and spatial confinement. While the layer-by-layer confinement is well-understood, the understanding of the impact of in-plane quantization in their optical spectrum is far behind. Here, we report the optical properties of atomically thin MoS colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals.

Hybrid hydrogels were prepared by blending Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCts), Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with Sodium sulfonate styrene (SSS) by 60-kGy gamma rays. The prepared hydrogels were utilized as silver-ion (Ag) sorbent under non- and competitive cases. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted in functional conditions including contact time, ratios of (CMC:CMCts) and SSS, pH value, temperature and adsorbent weight.

As a source of clean energy, a reliable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) requires robust and highly efficient catalysts. Here, by combining chemical vapor transport and Li-intercalation, we have prepared a series of 1T'-phase ReSSe ( x = 0-1) nanodots to achieve high-performance HER in acid medium. Among them, the 1T'-phase ReSSe nanodot exhibits the highest hydrogen evolution activity, with a Tafel slope of 50.

Introduction: Influenza B viruses circulate throughout Viet Nam, and their activities vary by region. There have been two antigenically distinct lineages of influenza B viruses co-circulating in the past 20 years; however, only one lineage is selected as a component of contemporary trivalent seasonal influenza vaccines. To improve the understanding of circulating influenza B lineages and influenza vaccine mismatches, we report the virus lineages circulating in northern Viet Nam over an eight-year period (2007-2014).

Iterative saturation mutagenesis and combinatorial active site saturation focused on vicinal amino acids were used to alter the acceptor specificity of amylosucrase from Neisseria polysaccharea , a sucrose-utilizing α-transglucosidase, and sort out improved variants. From the screening of three semirational sublibraries accounting in total for 20,000 variants, we report here the isolation of three double mutants of N. polysaccharea amylosucrase displaying a spectacular specificity enhancement toward both sucrose, the donor substrate, and the allyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-α-D-glucopyranoside acceptor as compared to the wild-type enzyme.
