Bacteria associated with canine pyometra and concurrent bacteriuria: A prospective study.

Canine pyometra is a common and potentially life-threatening reproductive disorder in intact female dogs. This prospective study aimed to (1) investigate the bacterial spectrum and antimicrobial susceptibilities of bacterial isolates from the uterus and urine of dogs with pyometra, (2) assess the clonal relatedness and virulence factors of Escherichia coli isolates from individual dogs, and (3) determine the occurrence of concurrent and persistent bacteriuria or clinical urinary tract infections. Bacterial isolates from 208 uterine and 203 urine specimens collected during pyometra surgery were analyzed.

Measurable residual disease and posttransplantation gilteritinib maintenance for patients with FLT3-ITD-mutated AML.

BMT CTN 1506 ("MORPHO"; NCT02997202) was a randomized phase 3 study of gilteritinib compared to placebo as maintenance therapy after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) for patients with FLT3-ITD-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A key secondary endpoint was to determine the impact on survival of pre- and/or post-HCT measurable residual disease (MRD), as determined using a highly sensitive assay for FLT3-ITD mutations. Generally, gilteritinib maintenance therapy was associated with improved relapse-free survival (RFS) for participants with detectable peri-HCT MRD, whereas no benefit was evident for those lacking detectable MRD.

Enhancing evidence-based practice in radiography education: Evaluation of an applied curriculum intervention.

Introduction: It is imperative that radiography graduates are taught to effectively apply evidence-based practice (EBP) in their clinical careers. Teaching the concept is challenging, as it requires educators to embed and scaffold knowledge and skills across the EBP cycle throughout both academic and clinical curricula. The objective of this study was to evaluate an overarching curriculum level intervention that aimed to enhance student radiographers' knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices towards EBP.

Borrowing regulatory capacity in middle-income countries during public health crises: Brazil, regulatory reliance, and the politics of COVD-19 vaccine regulation.

The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the critical role of states' regulatory capacities. Countries had to authorize novel vaccine technologies in the context of scientific uncertainty and political pressure, issues particularly acute in middle-income countries (MICs) less familiar with the procedures needed to streamline regulatory processes during a crisis. How did regulatory agencies in countries still building their regulatory capacities expedite the authorization of new COVID-19 vaccines to combat the pandemic? How did they navigate political pressures to expedite vaccine approval while maintaining safety and efficacy standards? We explore these questions through the case of Brazil, which has one of Latin America's most highly-regarded regulatory authorities, but was subject to acute political conflicts.

The Effect of the Pre-Transplant Disease Status on the Outcome for Recipients of T-Cell Depleted Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants for Large B Cell Lymphomas.

Objectives: Deauville scores (DS) from PET/CT imaging are increasingly being used to direct response-adjusted treatment strategies in lymphoma, including large B cell lymphomas (LBCL). We aimed to investigate the outcome of allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) in LBCL and the role played by pre-transplant disease status, as determined by DS.

Methods: We performed a retrospective, observational study of adults treated with a T-cell depleted alloHSCT for de novo DLBCL or high-grade transformation.

Characteristics of Student-Led Clinics in the Allied Health Professions: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

Background: Student-led clinics can provide students from allied health professions with the opportunity to gain valuable placement experience as an integral component of their preregistration program, enabling them to develop their competencies, professional skills, and administrative and leadership skills. Student-led clinics have the capacity to help meet the demand for appropriate practice-based learning opportunities, as there is an expectation that all allied health professions students should have high-quality learning experiences, ensuring the future workforce is fit for purpose. An overview of existing student-led clinics will increase our understanding of key characteristics, assisting education providers who may be considering the development of their own clinics.

Evaluation of an Interprofessional Educational Intervention in Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disability for Health and Social Service Trainees.

Objective: Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience high rates of poor mental health and challenges accessing timely and high-quality services. There is limited interprofessional training on mental health care for this population.

Methods: A virtual, synchronous program based on the Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) Ontario IDD Mental Health program was developed for health and social service trainees.

Validation of galvanomagnetic and thermomagnetic transport measurements using Standard Reference Material 3451.

In the "method of four coefficients," electrical resistivity (ρ), Seebeck coefficient (S), Hall coefficient (RH), and Nernst coefficient (Q) of a material are measured and typically fit or modeled with theoretical expressions based on Boltzmann transport theory to glean experimental insights into features of electronic structure and/or charge carrier scattering mechanisms in materials. Although well-defined and readily available reference materials exist for validating measurements of ρ and S, none currently exists for RH or Q. We show that measurements of all four transport coefficients-ρ, S, RH, and Q-can be validated using a single reference sample, namely, the low-temperature Seebeck coefficient Standard Reference Material® (SRM) 3451 (composition Bi2Te3+x) available from the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) without the need for inter-laboratory sample exchange.

This retrospective exactly-matched cohort study used claims data for patients from all 50 states in the United States from 2010 through 2020. Patients with an initial diagnosis of diabetes were stratified into 3 cohorts as follows: active smokers, never smokers, and former smokers.

The intangible costs of living with low back pain from a patient perspective: a scoping review.

Purpose: Health-related low back pain costs can be direct monetary, indirect monetary, or intangible, non-monetary. The purpose of this review was to identify the intangible, non-monetary costs of low back pain from the perspective of the individual.

Materials And Methods: A scoping review of literature was undertaken.

Interventions for people with perceptual disorders after stroke: the PIONEER scoping review, Cochrane systematic review and priority setting project.

Background: Stroke often affects recognition and interpretation of information from our senses, resulting in perceptual disorders. Evidence to inform treatment is unclear.

Objective: To determine the breadth and effectiveness of interventions for stroke-related perceptual disorders and identify priority research questions.

Patient and public involvement in an evidence synthesis project: description of and reflection on involvement.

Background: We conducted an NIHR-funded evidence synthesis project, reviewing evidence relating to interventions for perceptual disorders following stroke. This related paper describes how people with lived experience of stroke-related perceptual disorders contributed to and influenced the project, and identifies lessons for future review projects.

Methods: We planned our patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) activities within a study protocol, described according to the domains of the ACTIVE framework; these were founded on principles for good practice in PPIE.

Objective: Semaglutide, a novel glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, has transformed the therapeutic landscape for type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, its effect on osteoclast activity and its potential to induce weight-related muscle loss raises concerns about its impact on spine surgery outcomes. As such, evaluating semaglutide's influence on transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is imperative, given the procedure's reliance on successful bony fusion to prevent postoperative instability and further interventions.

Administration of Nicotine Can Inhibit Myopic Growth in Animal Models.

Purpose: While previously investigating the mechanism by which atropine inhibits ocular growth, we observed that stimulation of nicotinic receptors can inhibit experimental myopia. This study expands on that preliminary finding and investigates the safety and efficacy of nicotinic stimulation in the inhibition of ocular growth.

Methods: Nicotine's ability to inhibit form-deprivation myopia (FDM), following intravitreal injection (9 chicks per group) or topical application (6 chicks per group), was investigated over three doses.

This article details the findings of a literature review that aimed to determine the benefits and limitations of using telemedicine in unscheduled care. The findings suggest that the use of telemedicine can be cost-effective for patients and healthcare providers and may reduce hospital transfer and admission rates.

Longitudinal Family Functioning and Mental Health in Transgender and Nonbinary Youth and Their Families.

This study examined concordance of family members' perspectives of family functioning and mental health across two years in families with transgender and/or nonbinary youth (TNBY). Participants were 89 family members (30 TNBY, age 13-17 years; 44 cisgender caregivers; 15 cisgender siblings, age 14-24 years) from 30 families from the U.S.

Introduction: Early adolescents who are new to Canada experience dual challenges of navigating developmental changes and multiple cultures. This study examined how changes in early adolescents' emotional health from ages 9 to 12 differed by immigration background, and to what extent peer belonging and supportive school climate protected or promoted their emotional health.
