The LSU Community Playground Project (LSUCPP) collaborates with communities (especially the true experts at play, the children) to design and build playgrounds that reflect "the soul of the community." One member of the LSUCPP undertook a research project in an effort to design better playgrounds for use by children who are visually impaired or blind. A recommendation from this research was to provide a 3D-printed tactile map of each play area, such that children who were visually impaired or blind could feel the location and type of equipment and ground surfaces prior to entering a playground, which would enable them to play independently.

Methods: This single-center, prospective observational study evaluated kidney transplant biopsies from recipients of deceased donors with COVID-19, current recipients contracting SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in 2022, against prior BK virus (BKV) infection and uninfected (without SARS-CoV-2 or BKV) samples, as respective positive and negative comparators (n = 503 samples).
Results: We demonstrated nonvirus tubular injury in implanted tissue from infected donors and prevalent recipients with mild acute COVID-19 and acute kidney injury, excluding direct viral infection as a cause of kidney damage.
Background: There has been high uptake of rapid antigen test device use for point-of-care COVID-19 diagnosis. Individuals who are symptomatic but test negative on COVID-19 rapid antigen test devices might have a different respiratory viral infection.
