Methods: The Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database was used to investigate the effects of gynecological risk-reducing surgery (RRS) at different ages.
Results: Risk-reducing hysterectomy at 25 years of age prevents endometrial cancer before 50 years in 15%, 18%, 13%, and 0% of path_MLH1, path_MSH2, path_MSH6, and path_PMS2 heterozygotes and death in 2%, 2%, 1%, and 0%, respectively.
The reconstruction of bacterial and archaeal genomes from shotgun metagenomes has enabled insights into the ecology and evolution of environmental and host-associated microbiomes. Here we applied this approach to >10,000 metagenomes collected from diverse habitats covering all of Earth's continents and oceans, including metagenomes from human and animal hosts, engineered environments, and natural and agricultural soils, to capture extant microbial, metabolic and functional potential. This comprehensive catalog includes 52,515 metagenome-assembled genomes representing 12,556 novel candidate species-level operational taxonomic units spanning 135 phyla.

CuBaSnS (CBTS) and CuSrSnS (CSTS) semiconductors have been recently proposed as potential wide band gap photovoltaic absorbers. Although several measurements indicate that they are less affected by band tailing than their parent compound CuZnSnS, their photovoltaic efficiencies are still low. Intra-European disparities are reported for early detection and prognosis of skin cancers, however, no information exists about regional variation in patterns of dermoscopy use across Europe.
Objective: To evaluate the regional differences in patterns of dermoscopy use and training among European dermatologists.
Cross-sectional studies in adults have long identified differences in cortical structure in adults with depression compared to healthy adults, with most studies identifying reductions in grey matter volume, cortical thickness, and surface area in primarily frontal cortical regions including the OFC, ACC, and variable sub-regions of the PFC. However, when, why, and for whom these neural correlates of depression emerge remains poorly understood, necessitating developmental study of associations between depression and cortical structure. We systematically reviewed studies examining these associations in child/adolescent samples, and applied a developmentally-focused diathesis-stress model to understand the impacts of depressogenic risk-factors and stressors on the development of structural neural correlates of depression.

We studied changes in SLD and correlations with spirometry and nitrogen multiple breath washout (NMBW) outcomes to explore associations in contemporary evolution between structural and functional abnormalities in CF lung disease.
Methods: Spirometry-controlled chest-CTs using PRAGMA-CF for scoring extent of SLD, spirometry, and NMBW were performed at two-year intervals in school-age children with CF.
Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an important cause of cardiovascular mortality; however, its genetic determinants remain incompletely defined. In total, 10 previously identified risk loci explain a small fraction of AAA heritability.
Methods: We performed a genome-wide association study in the Million Veteran Program testing ≈18 million DNA sequence variants with AAA (7642 cases and 172 172 controls) in veterans of European ancestry with independent replication in up to 4972 cases and 99 858 controls.
The maritime expansion of Scandinavian populations during the Viking Age (about AD 750-1050) was a far-flung transformation in world history. Here we sequenced the genomes of 442 humans from archaeological sites across Europe and Greenland (to a median depth of about 1×) to understand the global influence of this expansion. We find the Viking period involved gene flow into Scandinavia from the south and east.

Background: Abnormal glutamate and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) levels have been found in the early phase of schizophrenia and may underlie cognitive deficits. However, the association between cognitive function and levels of glutamatergic metabolites and GABA has not been investigated in a large group of antipsychotic-naïve patients.
Methods: In total, 56 antipsychotic-naïve patients with schizophrenia or psychotic disorder and 51 healthy control subjects underwent magnetic resonance spectroscopy to measure glutamate, glutamate+glutamine (Glx), and GABA levels in dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and glutamate and Glx levels in left thalamus.
