Intraocular visualization in cataract surgery is currently achieved using the ophthalmic surgical microscope (OSM). Three-dimensional (3D) heads-up display is a burgeoning intraocular visualization technique for cataract surgery, which projects the surgical view to a 3D monitor. A number of theoretical advantages of this system over the OSM have been proposed.
